Have Amex dropped the increase to £15,000 to earn voucher – my account says
‘To earn your Companion Voucher, spend £10,000 or more on purchases using your Card by 02 Apr 2025.
So far you have spent £5,720 so spend £4,280 or more by 02 Apr 2025 to receive your Companion Voucher.’
I’m sure previously that the £15,000 was mentioned in that notice.
Possibly the new spend requirement only kicks in in November for new applicants? So your spend for the current card year is still £10k but £15k from next year? I need to read the article again though.
Yes – hence the new spend requirement (possibly) not applying to them until their next card year.
The tracker bit of the Amex website still says the old spend limit for the 12 months but it is actually the case that you have until the wnd October to spend £10k to get the voucher or £15k for 12 months from your last anniversary if you do not spend £10k by the end of October
Yes, AJA is right. The new spend requirement is not dependent on time of application. It applies on 1st Nov for everyone. So you can spend 10k until 30 Oct and get the voucher. Otherwise, you have to spend 15k to get it.
That’s not what it says on my account – no mention of £15k from 1st Nov.
If it helps, the tracker for me also totals to £10K, and I signed up on May 1st with the 60K Avios offer.
That’s not what it says on my account – no mention of £15k from 1st Nov.
The £15k spend threshold starts on 1 November for everyone. I wouldn’t be relying on the progress bar to insist on it being £10k by next April. You will already have received the formal notification of the change to the terms.
I’m not actually worried about reaching a £10k spend by 1st Nov as based on my current spending rate I’ll get there well before – I just thought it was interesting that the new spend figure isn’t mentioned.
Why would it be? The change doesn’t happen until 1st Nov.
@qc Me too, by the end of June I’ll be 2 months in and £8k spent with flights to book in September. I’m confident I can hit the £15k so the card will go back in the drawer until the spend target goes up. It’s the most annoying thing about the card, delaying spend to trigger the voucher as late as possible.
I’ve used up all my 2-4-1 vouchers so will just let mine trigger when I hit the spend.
I do have the Barclays upgrade vouchers but they’re not so useful or easy to use although I did manage to get 2 X LHR-KUL and return HKG-LHR in CW for later this year using them.
I am currently on £9k spend on the free BA but was hoping to upgrade to the paid BA Card to secure the 2 year 241 voucher.
would I on the request to upgrade the BA card fall foul of the new rules of £300 and £15k spend to secure the 2 year 241 voucher?

You will have to pay the new higher £300 fee which applies to all new applicants (which you are) but in respect of the spend threshold, it’s the same for everyone – you either need to spend £10k by 31 October or £15k by your anniversary date which will remain the same on your BAPP as it is on the free card.
I think it is clear. My countdown info says
“Spend £7,620 by 26 Feb 2025 to receive your Companion Voucher. From the 1 Nov 2024 the Companion Voucher Spend Threshold will be £15,000, but until then this tracker will continue to show your current Companion Voucher Spend Threshold.”
But if I hit the “See terms” link underneath, I see:
“To earn your Companion Voucher, spend £10,000 or more on purchases using your Card by 26 Feb 2025.”
So it will not suddenly increase on 1st Nov, as I read it. (I hope so anyway!)

@markmathsn – the threshold will increase on 1 November for all current and new cardholders as has been formally notified to you by Amex with more than the requisite notice of changes to terms.
