Planning to Cyprus with infant (<2) next year with BA. Ideally would like a bassinet or some sort so that baby is not on lap the entire flight.
What is the best option? Not sure if there are even bassinets in economy for narrow bodies? Otherwise is it better to just book 3 J tickets? Or go with club Europe and unlock middle seat?
No Bassinets on short haul planes.
3 economy seats or 2 CE seats will give you the same amount of space. (Bit confused why you mention J and CE, as they are the same thing on short-haul).
If you book 3 CE seats, of course you won’t all be in the same row (or one will be across the aisle), so being able to reserve seats would be important so you are close together.
Some airlines won’t let you book a separate seat for an infant, I’m not sure about BA. You may need to call to book this if they do.
Also if the price differential isn’t too big, and you don’t have BA status, with CE you will get lounge and F & B on the flight, which is worth taking into consideration on a longish flight.
Sorry meant 3 Y. I guess are these the only options when travelling short haul with infant?
1. Infant on lap
2. Take up 3 seats (one way or another)

Correct.
You’ll get family checkin, allowance for the baby and priority security and boarding regardless of which option you take.
Considering option 2, CE gets you closer access to the toilet for nappy changes (and if they draw the curtain exclusive access only for the CE cabin) and priority offboarding, which can be a game changer with an infant. Those can be worth the premium over 3 economy seats before you consider the lounge and meals onboard.
I’d recommend booking CE and infant in lap, if there is a middle table the crew can lower it for you. Otherwise you can call and book an infant in a seat if you want a block of 3 in ET.
I recently did it in CE to save some poor soul from being trapped in the window and having to share a row with my 2 x toddlers !
I’d agree getting 3 x seats. We did NYC a few years ago with our eldest (when she was 18 months or so). She was a biggish toddler and having her on our lap was an absolute disaster and I’d have willingly stumped up the cash for an extra seat. Although now I look back at the days when when we only had to pay for two of us (and now it’s four!).
As long as you have three seats, it’ll be just fine. Just come loaded with magazines, toys, iPad loaded with content and snacks (as well as wipes and what not). Travelling with young infants is probably the only occasion our children get what they want (in exchange for peace n quiet).
