Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Is a Household Account the same as a Family and Friends account?

I think I am confusing myself here, and what I need to do is set up is a Household Account so that I and my OH can pool our Avios; but I have read so much and am a bit confused.

It’s unlikely that we would want to redeem for anyone other than ourselves, however if I wished to treat my adult son or daughter to a flight at some point (different addresses to us) would I be able to in a HHA ? They don’t have BAEC accounts, but my husband does.

Everyone in a HHA needs a BAEC account – this doesn’t apply to family and friends. You can use your avios to book flights for people on either list.
Addresses don’t matter any more, so which option you go for is up to you.

I think there are limits on how often you can make changes to a HHA and F & F list – there’s another option to add travel companions which might be a bit more flexible.

Thank you, I was going around in circles. I think I will just do a HHA with myself and my husband as we both have the 8 digit numbers, already. I’ll worry about the others if and when it happens, can’t seen to get them interested in Avios.

@Misty, they’ll be interested when you offer them a free (or nearly) flight 😂

But yes, a HHA with your OH is what you need – if you create it, you will be the “head” of the HHA and other members will get emails inviting them to join you, which they need to accept (IIRC). You can nominate each other as authorised people as well so you can make transactions on each other’s behalf. My OH isn’t very accomplished with all the booking stuff so as an authorised person I can, for example, call BA to add a return to a 241 booking with his voucher, if need be.

Remember adding someone to your HHA gives them FULL use of ALL the avios in the account even if they’ve added none to it themselves.

The head of the HHA doesn’t get an email saying “do you approve of person 3 spending 160k avios on a first class return to New York? Please click Yes to approve or No to decline this”

Once you add someone they can’t be removed for six months.

Good point, though if @Misty’s family is anything like mine, nobody else in the HHA will have the first idea how to access the avios!

Thanks for your replies, so I will open it and then give my OH access to i, which he won’t know what to do with. I think I will just keep it between the two of us at present. The Millenials are happy easyjeting it – or they were before easyjet’s timekeeping went to pot.

At present I have all the miles but he has the 241, I’m assuming that if we are in a household account together I will be able to access the 241 extra inventory when I do my searches to see what’s available. At the moment I am just searching on my account and halving the Avios in my head.

Yes, you can use all the avios. However, you won’t be able to see the 241 from your account – if searching/booking online, you need to log in to his account and select the voucher to begin with.

Sadly I learnt the hard way, 1 more month to go to get out of a household account! BA really need to get some sort of system in place to not be stuck in for 6 months!

Presumably it’s to stop naughty people adding and removing multiple strangers and “buying” flights for them in contravention to the rules!
