Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club is a Virgin rewards booking with a connecting Indigo flight possible?

    Hi everyone

Could someone explain what happens if you want to book a reward ticket with Virgin but then with a connecting flight with a partner airline (in this case Indigo) – is that possible on a single ticket or would the rewards flight need to be a separate booking?

More details in case it’s needed: I’ve earned my first companion voucher and want to use it to book a flight for 2 poeple to Goa next year. The routing would be LHR to BOM with Virgin and then BOM to GOI with their partner Indigo – you can book this route with a paid ticket on the Virgin website, but it won’t show up as an available option when trying to book a reward ticket on their website.

I am a red status but upper class on the LHR to BOM segment on the dates I am looking at is currently 60.5k points + £688 tax. I believe I can therefore use the companion voucher to book 2 people on this flight for 60.5k points + double the tax. I also know I could separately book the connecting Indigo flight from BOM to GOI but I’d like to know if Virgin can book this on a single ticket, where I would pay the points + tax for the virgin element and a cash price for the indigo element, or if not is there any way that this can be done on a single ticket? I want to make sure that the luggage is checked all the way through and that if the Virgin flight is delayed, then rebooking onto a later Indigo flight is taken care of (and the same for the return journey!)

I can potentially book with BA also but Virgin looks like it’s a cheaper option at the moment (slightly higher tax but a lot less points)

    All advice gratefully received!

It’s just not possible to have a points booking and a cash booking on the same ticket.

That said, see if VS Hols. will price it for you – it might need you to give them a call, as I suspect the website won’t see it as a valid route. If they can price it, then you can pay it down with points.
