Is it worth having both Amex Platinum credit card and the Amex Gold Charge Card.

I can’t let go. Anyone else doing this?

The days of this being beneficial in terms of free annual fee on the gold card are long gone…

I think you’d be better off getting the BA prem plus card instead.

Been thinking on similar lines too! I have Gold and P2 recently got the Platinum for sign up bonus – and I think we might keep both going forward.

As I think HfP articles have stated many seem to keep Platinum for benefit only and spending elsewhere.

For us, on Gold we effectively get 1.5 points per £1 as we generally spend less than £25k on Amex. So the difference for annual fee is the cost of the 241 voucher – which as someone not ranking huge number of points and living much closer to Gatwick is not much value for us… MR points feel more flexible too comparing to Avios only.

Plus if you use Deliveroo on Gold then the fee is very largely paid for.

Keen to hear others’ thoughts too 🙂

I would keep the gold charge and upgrade it to the platinum charge. IMHO it’s beneficial to grandfather their charge card as it’s discontinued to new customers. Dunno why Rob was trying to encourage people to switch from gold charge to gold credit.

Platinum credit only allows one free supp cardholder.

Platinum charge allows more than that:

As a Platinum Cardholder you can enjoy access to up to five complimentary additional Cards:

    One complimentary Platinum Additional Card
Four complimentary Green or Gold Additional Cards

So it means all your supplementary cardholders would be covered by the travel insurance even if holding the green card.

You also have the option of downgrading to the green charge which isn’t offered anymore and then have the flexibility of going back to gold or platinum charge. It’s worth it for the £60 fee as you still get the Amex offers like shop small, collect MR points and purchase protection.

Actually it might be better to cancel platinum credit and upgrade the gold charge to platinum charge if you wanted to keep one card. You also get a 20k welcome bonus for upgrading.

Double points for airline spend, Rewards As You Go and the Deliveroo credit mean the PRG card pays for itself. The Plat card should be paying for itself through cashback; if you’re relying on Priority Pass use in the UK to justify the Plat then forget it.

Many thanks all. I am travelling a lot so using the priority card often. Also using the travel insurance with the car hire insurance which is a bonus. I had given up my BA Platinum might reconsider that in place of the Gold.
