Flight from Glasgow to LHR, overnighting in LHR and onwards to Larnaca – BA Club Europe.
We sat in the lounge at Glasgow, and I happened to glance down at the side of my chair, the way I was sitting was causing the seat cushion to open up the gap at the side of the seat – I spied what must have been six months worth of food deposits down the side of the cushion; totally disgusting! I’ve tweeted them about that but they’ve not replied.
We boarded the flight to London, the meal choice was a ploughman‘s lunch, or a butternut squash and couscous vegetarian option: ploughman‘s lunch came with a starter of roasted butternut squash and couscous, the vegetarian option was a starter of roasted butternut squash and couscous, followed by a full plate of roasted butternut squash and couscous!!
Thankfully, we’d both chosen the Ploughman‘s option, however my OH immediately spied a hair in his so had to send it back and get a replacement.
Fast forward to yesterday, the lounge in T5 was rammed as usual, then on the flight they did the pre-dinner drinks service, followed by food and drinks. After they cleared the trays away, less than two hours into the 4+ hour flight, that was the end of service – we never saw any further offers of drinks etc again. The cabin crew were too busy pushing trolleys backwards and forwards between the front and back galleys, continually fidgeting around in the wardrobe closet in front of us, and then being generally disorganised with 6 staff at one point falling over each other and getting in each other’s way in the front galley – then at the end of the flight I heard the purser thanking the crew for all their hard work – they didn’t fe••ing do anything for two hours!!
I’m starting to think we’ll use our 400K Avios balance to fund a flight on Qatar and downgrade our Amex to a standard one when the time comes as you can’t use the companion voucher on other airlines.
I think we’re at the stage where we’ll stop being slaves to Avios and start using other airlines instead. Air France were great to other week to Rome and back!
If you wanted a drink in the two hours where no service was on offer you should have used the call button in the overhead panel
Or asked for two bottles of wine or whatever with the food service or drinks service
Cleaning in the lounge is an issue but I would have pointed it out to the staff in the lounge at the time rather than tweeting them after the event.
The food options on board are pot luck though. On my flight to LIS my OH’s 1st choice ran out at the passenger in the seat ahead. We were row 9 of a 12 row Club cabin.
Passenger seated in row 11 was unhappy but that’s the way it goes.
Sorry, what I meant to ask was, is this normal or were we just unlucky with the service? Two flights to Greece in CW last year and had to be virtually poured off the plane at the other end, service was almost as if they had too much champers and wine, they needed to get rid of it!
Just unlucky I guess. Service on my LIS flight was great despite a completely full 12 row cabin and the upset passenger (handled well by the crew who offered her an item from the economy paid for menu) The flight was also quicker than planned, arrived 10 minutes ahead of schedule despite a 30 minute delay on departure because they weren’t sure if a passenger had boarded or not. Several announcements asking fir passenger to make themselves known to crew.
The flight was completely full but we had 4 crew serving us in Club Europe so I guess two were from the economy cabin. Served drinks from both ends of the cabin. Didn’t feel rushed at all.
