As an update, I’ve called BA again and they have linked the inbound with the outbound under the same 241 voucher and refunded us 110k Avios :).
Well done! Sometimes the lack of agent competence can work in your favour.
I don’t think it was incompetency, if anything it’s the opposite. The agent immediately noticed the flights were booked by 2 different accounts. We explained to him the reason, he understood that we didn’t try to game the system at all, same passengers some household same number of points. He put us on hold for a while, probably checking with his supervisor and then came back and processed it. Definitely lucky that we got a nice agent who was willing to go the extra to deal with the case, not just a robotic call centre agent whos reading off the script.
