Travelling to Italy for a week in June. Looking to rent a car for 7 days from Pisa Airport.

I have status with Hertz – the cheapest car on offer is a Polestar 2. I’ve rented Teslas before in the USA, so fairly comfortable with what’s involved and the Supercharger network is excellent in my experience over there, but how is the non-Tesla charger situation in Italy? Will I have to download apps etc? Staying fairly rural if that makes a difference.

Wondering if its going to be a faff, or pay the extra for an ICE car?

If anyone has any experience of electric vehicle rental in Italy, I’d appreciate any pointers.

    Thanks!

I would download Electromaps and check the area(a) you plan on visiting and decide based on that.

In Spain for instance it is quite annoying as even if you find chargers you then have to download different apps for each one of them and it is quite involved.

What level of charge do hertz require you to return the car with?

I’ve driven a Hertz electric rental in Italy, but not picked up there. No doubt they will give you a Shell Recharge tag, seems they do across Europe. It’s not always the best price option at any given charge point but it’s very simple and they will pass the fees on without any additional cost. The charging infrastructure seemed similar in availablity to the UK, but it’s not the cheapest place to drive electric.
