So last week I had the pleasure of flying JAL on a fairly short overnight flight, HND-BKK.
That sector runs on a 787 with the SkySuite III. Not sure who designed or tested this, but I don’t think I’ve ever been on a less comfortable flat bed. Too short (and I’m not even 6ft at a push), cramped footwell, narrow. Probably managed 90 mins sleep tops.
The old BA ying-yang has its flaws but this was in another league. I assume they don’t run this kit on the LHR flight? Reckon I’d have been better off in PE.
I’ve had that as well on a DOH-HND flight and it was hard work! I couldn’t believe the seat was that narrow, it was almost painful.
Last month I did LHR-HND but it’s on the A35K with the new suite and it was amazing, one of the best seats in the sky. Still has the overly complicated (and very Japanese) 3 pages of instructions to access the WiFi, although it is free for the whole flight.
They look similar to KLM 787-9 seat, very tight and a huge gap between the two cushions
Worse for me though on any of these short overnight flights on Asian carriers is the huge amounts of meal service that seem to go on (that most people seem to partake in) and how early they want everyone fed and buttoned up for landing. They could take some tips from BA on JFK-LHR!
