JAL upgrades – any options?

Anyone have recent experiences in upgrading on JAL and is there an optimal way of doing so?

Are we talking Y to PE or to J?

JAL has a fixed rice for some upgrades that you can do at the airport. Other options are available if you booked directly with them.

Also is it for a domestic flight?

JAL has a bidding system for upgrades. If you are in PE you can pay to get to J but no guarantees here.

There is no airport upgrade to J (there is an option from Y to PE).
