I’m staying at the Kimpton Manchester (stunning hotel if you’ve not stayed there before) this weekend as a birthday treat, any ideas for the secret password or indeed if there is one at the moment? Or is it just an urban myth? Thank you in anticipation!
I stayed there last week and the secret password just gave a bag with some snacks (similar to what you already have in the room).
Few months ago, they used to give me a box of fudge and once they gave me two bottles of their shampoo and conditioner (1969 brand).
So, don’t expect much, other Kimptons are much better with the social password. The Clocktower is indeed a lovely building – they have been quite liberal with free drinks vouchers as well on my 2 stays!
They don’t give drink vouchers for the social hour anymore, you can now take as many drinks as you wish during that hour (and replenish 5 minutes before it ends to extend it a bit)! I’m not sure when changed, but my last two stays in May were like that.
I meant vouchers for cocktails etc in the bar that you get for status. The wine was a bit meh, IIRC. The Refuge restaurant is pretty good – if you book via Emyr the $100 credit pays for a decent meal there as well.
Latish arrival also to Kimpton Manchester last night. Secret password got a free drink from the fridge in reception.
‘No shade’ worked at the Kimpton Seafire – a little can of wine that retails at $13 in the shop.
So that’s just $67 of the resort fee to earn back 😂. Watch they don’t slap a 15% service charge on that can of wine!
The Clocktower gave 2 bottles of Peroni last week which is much better than the fudge I’ve had previously in my opinion.

I did have to point out at check out that they’d charged me 12 resort fees for our 10 night stay! As if $800 wasn’t enough!
Search says it is It’s Giving from 1st Nov. Is anyone able to confirm this is correct and is accepted please? First stay in a Kimpton coming up soon.

ThanksYes that’s it. Good luck, my 3 stays have been – a hand made but ugly and useless tie pin, a vodka/tonic from the fridge behind reception and nothing because there was no active password at the time.
Thanks Davefl. Will manage my expectations accordingly!
I used the “It’s giving” pass phrase at Kimpton Fitzroy last week. Got a £15 raid the bar voucher.
As a soon to expire diamond member, I chose breakfast as my amenity. I also seem to have been awarded bonus points as well. They will lose hunners of Diamond members on 31/12 I wonder if they might do a last minute promo?
They will lose hunners of Diamond members on 31/12 I wonder if they might do a last minute promo?
Perhaps they want to reduce the numbers of diamonds?
But there have been targeted offers this year to help boost (obviously certain people) involving double nights for example.
There is one at the moment (also targeted) which is stay 10 paid nights between October and December and you’d be Diamond next year.
I got the latter but not the former. Some people on here got the former but not the latter.

Yes and I got the former not the latter sadly. Would have preferred the later and might have pushed more ihg to retain diamond but not always the way. Will lose my diamond, does anyone know of anywhere where I can match my IHG diamond to any other hotel status?
Not a Kimpton specific reply.
I keep getting info about IHG Business Rewards.
Do I need to book more than one room for the extra benefits to apply? Please enlighten me.

The pass phrase worked at my first Kimpton stay. A very basic “wheel of fortune” type contraption (every expense spared) was produced from behind the reception area. The spin landed on a bottle of wine, so happy with that! The one next to it was 1000 points, didn’t notice any of the other options – sorry.
What can I expect at Glasgow and is there anything I should do at the hotel? I haven’t stayed before.
I’m arriving at 3.30pm and have the afternoon/evening free, leaving at 8am for a business meeting the next day.
I’d normally stay at the Indigo or Voco and only booking the Kimpton because it will get me to £300 on my last Amex, otherwise I would be at £225
You just mention the code word and that’s it.
Playing silly games of spin the wheel is a very US thing but here and in Europe it’s usually something more sedate like a free drink or points that the check in staff offer.
