Anyone know why no pp footprint in Norway, is it the lack of independent lounges or some other reason such as cost
I read somewhere that it’s the same reason business class itineraries tend to be lower priced from Scandinavia. That as societies they are (relatively) high tax high public service expectation. And that engenders a more cohesive community sense than in say the UK. Thus their populations are more willing to travel in an unsegregated manner. Also helped by the fact they may have less after-tax income to throw at premium cabin tickets. Some evidence for this theory (or is it correlation rather than causation) in the fact that SAS business class is 3-3 layout short haul.
Anyway that’s one theory. Other one might be that they’re true hard men, hewn from rock and ice, and they don’t need namby pamby lounges like soft Brits.
Probably a combination of high cost and low demand.
From my limited experience it appears that airports in Scandinavia have much better airside facilities for eating / refreshments than in other countries so that a commercial lounge offering isn’t really necessary or profitable.
Perhaps also compounded by the duty on alcohol being so high and thus not viable for PP fees paid to lounges.

It is crazy how because of their ridiculous, albeit in Y tickets from ARN, GOT, OSL, CPH. I have been able to travel in peak children school hols and Xmas for £200-300 pp ex-Scandinavia to Florida/USA. Remember one flight with the actual ticket being £1.60 and the rest taxes and fees. Plus great cities to visit to boot.
You’d be surprised at how average the taxes are compared to other European countries 🙂 SAS is just on a race to the bottom cost cutting adventure and are making some strange decisions about their short haul business product…
Norway has a lot of tiny airports where it doesn’t really make sense to invest in facilities that are not open to all, but the larger ones (OSL, BGO, SVG) all have Dragon Pass lounges in the international departures area that are quite decent. If you’re flying SAS you can also pay to enter their domestic business lounge at OSL, but it’s always full so I don’t recommend it!
Both the OSL Lounge and the lounge at Stavanger list that Amex Plat cardholders can enter for free as well – does this apply to those issued in Norway, or can UK Amex Plat cardholders enter too?

Not listed on the Amex UK lounge finder but you may get lucky
UK Amex Platinum cardholders can definitely enter the OSL Lounge – I’ve done it many times. Whether you would want to is another question, it’s not the greatest lounge across Europe – particularly for food offerings.

Yep was in OSL lounge last September, didn’t think much to it, specially in terms of the food offerings, to my memory only thing hot was soup which was ok. The only other savoury on offer was just salad, nothing to get excited about. Not a massive sweet person, so can’t remember if they had any cakes on offer.
Data point as I came across this thread – UK-issued platinum cards cannot be used for entry anymore, we tried our luck today and were told the rules changed back in April. Entry is via app anyway.
Used Amex Plat in both OSL and SVG multiple times without issues in the past . For OSL, I tend to use SAS own lounge more though. I will give SVG a try tomorrow morning (if I have time) and report back.
Any recent experience here?
Still not allowing UK Platinum cards?
@Stephen sorry forgetting to report back. My most recent experience in SVG (Nov 2024)– I was asked specifically if it is Norway Plat cards or other countries. Said UK and was refused. 🙁

Thanks, I emailed them and they said you must use the
AMEX Experiences app and get a barcode to scan
You can select Norway or any country, and then asks you to enter you Platinum number for review (so unlikely to approve the Fast track security and lounge access)
They do accept Dragon Pass but limited to 2 hours before flight
