Hi All! Due to an unexpected refund hitting my Plat account overnight, I find myself short by ~£100 for the Plat welcome bonus threshold and today is the last day for it.
Which merchant is my best bet if I want the transaction posted today itself?
Also, does Amex consider the posting date (i.e. dependent on the merchant claiming the amount), or the transaction date for calculating eligible spend?
Any help will be appreciated!! Don’t want to miss 40k points for just £100.
Amazon gift card is your best bet. I can’t help with the timing questions other than fear you might be out of luck.
Did your payment bounce?
(sorry, couldn’t resist)
I’d love a Tigger welcome bonus 🐯 😂
But I second Amazon, and maybe also nip to a major supermarket and spend the amount as a back up. It being a week day is helpful.
Hahah!
Took me a while to figure out the reference. My bad! You can imagine the state of panic it was written in.
I have, for now, topped up Amazon, bought a Tesco gift card in store, and paid council tax at Co-op. Each amount enough to get me over on its own.
Should this work? Happy to take more suggestions as well!
Thank you so much.
Should this work?
I don’t think anyone can give you 100% assurance that it will work, but in theory those new transactions will (eventually) post with today’s date.
Whether those transactions will automatically satisfy the Amex algorithm or not is unknown, so you might have to chase.
If you are sure today is your deadline for spend then I think you would have a good case.
p.s. glad you worked out the reference despite the panic!

Yes, I did confirm with CC on chat that today is the last day. The card was upgraded on 28th Aug. I also checked past statements and most transactions (barring 3-4 in a month) seem to have been posted on the transaction date itself. Never knew that PDF statements had that detail!
Perhaps a daft question but is it 6 months from date of approval, or is it 6 months of statements?
OH’s card was approved on 24/11 so 6 months is next Friday, but statement for the month closes tomorrow. Have just bought an Amazon voucher for the last couple of hundred in case the latter, and will pray clears in time, but would be good to know which it is
