Forums Other Destination advice LATAM for Chile

Thanks whoever it was who recommended using the LATAM Chilean website for booking tickets. The base fare was no cheaper than the international fare, but they have just one economy fare type and that includes a checked bag and seat selection. The equivalent international ‘full’ economy fare was a lot more.

There was availability on the BA website with Avios but the rate was average (1p per Avios) and since I am a bit Avios poor at the moment, I went for paying cash.

I used a VPN and chose http://www.lan.cl as a starting point which then redirects to the international site localised to Spanish and CLP. Amex didn’t work, but Curve did.

That’s strange. Last weekend, I used amex gold to pay in CLP through its Chiliean site and all went well to get triple points but main thing is better protection from amex based on my experiences when booking flight using amex.

You could also have a look at its PE fare as well as in my case it was only £5 extra per pax more than Y fare. While it is BA CE style seat (blocked middle seat) for 3 hours flight, the fully-refundable is the main thing for us.

    This was domestic. No PE.

Their credit card acceptance seems a bit weird. I was trying to book tickets for 3 different flights while in peru a while back, first one worked, then second one failed using the same card and 6 different cards (amex, visa and mc) and didnt work for the rest of the day. Next day, it worked.

LATAM does operate premium economy on many domestic routes (and real business on domestic routes such as Easter Island), as does AR in Argentina. The former has a mix of blocked middle seats or real business seats whereas I have only seen real 2-2 business seats on AR although it is only sold as PE on domestic flights. It’s well worth it for the extra baggage allowance, comfort, ticket flexibility and absence of queues unless you already have status.

Thanks for the info. Will check for the remaining domestic flights I need.

We’re flying economy exit rows to Easter Island which is just fine by me for a 5 hour day flight. I’m too much of a cheapskate to do that upgrade myself.
