Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club LAX to LHR Club World seat question

  • 142 posts

I will be flying LAX to LHR late this week in club world on a 777, BA0280.

I will be left with whatever is available for the 2 of us at t-24 hours as no status and disinclined to pay extra.

    Any tips or avoids?

    Many thanks all!

Yes check in and select the best available seats but don’t generate the BP as that will allow you go back and check if any other seats have become available.

    Thanks…any locations better than others?

Assuming it’s old Club World then as a couple on an overnight flight I’d take a middle, middle, rear facing pair. As it happens these are very unpopular with single travellers as they’re a bit like a double bed & therefore often the least popular overall.

I’ve just checked & looks like Club Suite for the next few days.

The good news is there aren’t any particularly good or poor seats especially compared to old CW where there was some sublime & awful options.

Tell us which day & I can check the seat map on Expert Flyer. I wouldn’t get your hopes up about being seated next to each other but does that really matter?

Yes, showing as Club Suite. Is a busy flight and only pair of seats left are in row 7 which are blocked at the moment, so will be assigned on check in.

As said above, are no bad seats though.

So is the trick not to print boarding passes when you check in and select seats at 24 hours before flight so that you can change seats right up arriving at airport? Would the seats that are ‘blocked’ that you see on expert flyer be offered to you if you asked at check in desk? ( only blue ) Thanks in advance.

It’s essentially impossible to interact meaningfully even if adjacent, and you’ll be asleep for most of it so I wouldn’t worry about sitting next to each other anyway, and most definitely would not be paying for it. In-front + behind or across the aisle will be just as good. Not too near the bogs and you’re all good.

So..I checked in online at 23 hours 55 minutes before today’s flight.

We are at opposite ends of the cabin!! A window seat each…with zero options to move..not a single other seat.

I have to say that if I had paid cash for this then based on us being on the same booking I would not be impressed…as it is we are just friends but I guess this happens all to often…feels like a very Ryanair thing.

You may be able to get someone to switch seats with you when you board so that you can sit together. Happens all the time, crew may help you accomodate that.

As a single traveller, the only time those are acceptable is if you get the entire bank of 4 across the middle to yourself. If you do, it’s heaven as you’re in your own little coccoon. Happened to me once from San Diego and was only only time I could tolerate BA’s 777 dreadful yin/yang and poor air quality. I even moved from the window seat which is my preference for the open bank of 4

remember since you hopefully didn’t generate the BP you can go back and see if any seats have been opened up.

We flew as a couple in CS to LAX both ways in March and the return journey, the two middle seats in row 7, on the 777, I think were amongst the best seats on the plane.

It is not ideal but interaction was fairly good if you keep the central window open.

I already said this, but actually found CS quite uncomfortable to sleep in, as a side sleeper kept biting the lower part of the table
