Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Linking bookings to make baggage transfers less painful

Checking backs at ZNZ with Kenyan was a PITA as they spent ages getting convinced that we had onward flights to LHR with BA, booked separately. There was no way we could have collected bags in NBO as we did not have a transit visa.

Would BA have been able to have linked our two bookings somehow so the checkin agent would not have been so useless?

BA won’t link 2 separate bookings when both are on BA métal let alone those booked with a different airline.

You need to either build in time & the ability (visa etc) to go landside or make one booking where the other legs use airlines BA has an interlining agreement with.

In this situation it’s nothing to do with BA though, the first airline has financial responsibility for getting your luggage to the final destination so it’s Kenyan’s call as to whether they will accommodate your request to interline.

Hum, makes sense. Definitely something to bear in mind next time.

In my experience with this you always have to plan for bags not to be checked through on seperate tickets & have a visa etc accordingly. Even where an airline has an interline agreement – (you can check on expertflyer) it is very YMMV on the day. Singapore Airlines have always been happy to check through to anyone – even managed AtlasGlobal once ! But Turkish Airlines refused to check through to anyone else from LHR.

BA absolutely will not do it as a rule, same as AA. BA to BA randomly sometimes the system links the bookings for you but don’t plan for it
