Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club List of BA routes to Asia

  • 13 posts

I have been trying to book a trip to Bali using the Barclays voucher. I know BA doesn’t fly direct there or to any other city in Indonesia. So I was thinking of flying direct to a major city in Asia and catch a flight to Bali.

Singapore and Hong Kong seem very popular, and I literally can’t find a single date for months on end. I think BA used to fly to Kuala Lumpur but I couldn’t find any flights to KL. I search Google for a list of BA routes to Asia, but every list seems outdated (even HfPs). Is there an updated list available with anyone here or can someone share the best way to reach Bali by doing a stopover in an Asian city, that will be highly appreciated.

Before anyone suggests, we would like to avoid going via Middle East, as OH thinks we have been there way too many times and would like to avoid ME if we can.

    Thanks.

    It’s a very short list!

I believe your options are Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai and Beijing (be aware of visa requirements for the latter two, though the 3-day transit-without-visa may be relevant if you’re travelling onward). Otherwise, Delhi or Mumbai maybe?

Japan & China are long flights to Bali – 6-7hrs. so not cheap or frequent. I don’t think there are any direct flights from India.

You really want to get to Singapore for Bali but that is pretty much in T-355 terrority – it’s very popular and you’re competing with Sydney folks too.

Hong kong is a possible option but expect to be in economy for the HKG-Denpasar leg, Cathay J is very pricey on this route and never available for miles IME

Yes, you need to plan around 6-9 months at least, then yes there are J for redemption in my experience.

The forum swallowed my response to say the same. Either that or it got moderated into the bin.

You can use flight connections with DPS as the origin airport and see which connections can be made. India was my first choice, but there are no flights. I’d look at Shanghai (PVG) as there are business class flights from there on China Eastern for a grand. Whether that plus BA’s fees on a PVG flight would make it worth it would of course be debatable.

FWIW, we’re using BOM for flights to the Maldives as there’s an Indigo flight between BOM and MLE that is not overly expensive and on the way back we’re staying a few days in Mumbai because we like the city.

Lots of BA flights to India but no connections. Shame as there are often loads of reward seats available. We are using Mumbai for the Maldives.

As for China, PVG-DPS is a 6 hour flight. Looks about £400 in economy, £1k in business.

Funnily enough I am doing this same trip. LHR-PVG then down to DPS. To go to Disneyland and stay a few days in PVG. Leaving to go Bali its HGH-SIN-DPS is around £130-160 with LCC Scoot. Also for OP consider going LHR-BOM and other Indian destinations with Virgin whose 10k points off peak is unmatched. Then connect.

Similar to me, in though PVG and home via HKG. The plan was to go straight from PVG to Cambodia but flights were either inconvenient or very expensive, ending up with a night in Saigon on the way to the new Siem Reap airport.

We arrived at the new Siem Reap airport (SAI) from Singapore on Wednesday, 2 days after opening. Everyone really keen to please. Ours was the only plane there. Slightly disconcerting when the screen on back of seat said time at SIN 245pm, time at REP 155pm, estimated arrival 0836 am! We had great problems booking a flight to SAI, because all airlines were saying length of flight was over 7 hours, including SIA. Eventually got email saying we would be going to new airport.

We decided to book taxi to hotel which was $60. However we were pleased we did as there appeared to be no ground transportation easily available, and we ended up offering a lift to a fellow traveller. There were no online options and we couldn’t pick up the internet at the airport. The journey took more than an hour. First trip to Cambodia and we’re enjoying it, especially as tourist numbers seem to be low at the moment. Think you will have an amazing time. We’re heading down to Phnom Penh before travelling to Laos and Vietnam.

@LD27 the new airport ground transport has been monopolied (if that’s even a word!?) but yes locals are not happy with it and there has been quite a lot of noice to bring in the system similar to others airport in the regions with public transport such as taxi or even Grab. I doubt they will be listened to just like everything else in cambodia!

Glad you are having a good time! And make sure you try the unborn duck egg (Balut?) once in phnom penh.

Thanks for the updates on the new airport. We have a transfer included with our hotel so that’s covered. Four nights on Siem Reap, one in Battambang to see the bats, then Phnom Penh for 2 before catching the ferry to Phu Quoc.
