I have been using the Lizzy line for a couple of months when I need to be in London for work from Reading/Twyford.
Last weekend there was a train stuck in the tunnel so all westbound trains stopped running. The staff directed all passengers to use the GWR service to Reading.
I tapped onto the platform with my contactless card and out again in Twyford.
My question is can I do this all the time and catch either the Lizzy line from the underground station or tap in to platform 14 and use GWR services for the EL fee?
TIA
For comparison a ticket on GWR is £22.60 yet contactless in/out is £11.30
Yes this is fine. Doesn’t work with an Oyster though only a contactless card payment
If you’re doing a return (which most people would be) then the price is more or less the same but if you’re only going one way then you do benefit from the “tfl price” single needing to be half whereas GWR price for a single is 10p less than a return
As a random aside there is going to be quite a substantial expansion of this contactless only PAYG area including Stansted Airport
