Hi,
I am looking to redeem London to Larnaca in the second week of September as the cash price is quite expensive on BA.
Looking at Seat Spy and BA, there is only availability for an outbound flight but no inbound until end of September.
This is only my second redemption so I am wondering if there is any possibility that there will be more availability in the next couple of months?
Also, is it worth it to redeem for Club Europe or should I stick with economy?
There is a fair bit more availability back from Paphos if you’re willing to travel for the return flight? You can book an ‘open-jaw’ return flight like this by ringing BA Executive Club.
Alternatively you could book them as 2 single flights locking in a return in from Paphos now, and then set up an alert on SeatSpy (or manually check regularly if you don’t want to pay for a sub) to let you know if Larnaca becomes available. I believe there is a thread on here recently discussing very small (circa 50p) cancellation charges for European RFS fares, so it’s low risk.
It’s quite possible there will be more availability, but it’s never guaranteed.
Have you actually tried to book the full journey? Both SeatSpy and BA’s availability finders have been having a few wobbles recently, which might be why so little return availability is showing?
I would say LCA is a sufficiently long flight to be worth doing in CE.
As per @Nath4n, book 2 singles if you think you’ll want to cancel Paphos as it’ll be much simpler and won’t cost you any more!
LCA-LHR is the longest short haul flight that BA currently operate. All CE will give you is the empty middle seat and a panini. Not sure it’s worth the extra Avios and taxes.
I went to LCA January/February this year. It’s a long flight and I was surprised both flights were full.
They had the A321 neos on this route when I travelled. Seats after row 14 don’t recline. If you’ve got status you might prefer to have an exit row seat further back with more leg room (x2 on these planes) which is what I went for. I decided it was worth saving the points/cash, especially as I had an enormous breakfast at the Indigo before flight and there is also a reasonable lounge at LCA. Check the planes currently being used and look at seat maps on Aerolopa.com.
I agree with @Tracey. I’m not sure whether it’s worth the extra points and taxes.
Or look at it on the flip side. If the flight is full, you are guaranteed more arm room if you pay extra for club and free drinks/food as a bonus on top.
I did CE from LHR-GIB a couple of weeks ago, which is shorter than LCA. F & B were very good – I had pappardelle with chicken in lobster sauce followed by blackcurrant mousse and the other mains choices looked equally tasty. Wine pairings were excellent – my chardonnay was one of the best I had ever tasted and I drink a fair bit of wine! The drinks trolley is fairly free-flowing on a flight of that length so you can’t try a few different things.
Re the middle seat, I really like having the extra space to put book/ipad/drinks etc and you know you’re not going to be squashed up next to a stranger for 3/4 hours.
It’ll be a decent sized meal + drinks. Personally I find these are the routes it’s most worth it, I really appreciate the extra space (especially if 2 of you travelling) and a couple of drinks on a long run. But it’s a matter of personal opinion of course
I don’t think these flights are very status heavy. Although the flights were virtually full, sitting in emergency exit rows I had an empty seat next to me in both directions.
I had a great day wandering around Nicosia. You can cross the green line into the Turkish part if you walk along Ledra Street. Just make sure you have your passport or ID card. It might be worth taking the bus to the city, which is cheap and no problems with parking.
