Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club London to Sydney??

May have to pop over there for work in August. What’s the best routing to maximise TPs? I could do an ex EU trip potentially too. Do I earn TP on Qatar? When I looked on the BA site it said 0 for that route.

    TIA

Doing EU(or LHR)-DOH-SYD on Qatar will get 600 TP plus positioning TP. You need to put in the individual flights to the BA calculator, ie LHR-DOH and DOH-SYD, not just LHR-SYD. Flying Malaysian would get you the same, although only from London. Emirates would be another option as long as you book with Qantas flight numbers – if it’s Emirates codes then you get 0.

You can sometimes route EU-DOH/DXB/wherever-PER-SYD, which would get you an extra 120TP each way. I’ve no idea if there are any current deals for that though. Alternatively Finnair LHR-HEL-SIN-SYD is a reasonable option that would get you 720TP in total.

(all those numbers assume you’d be travelling in business class. If you’re going in economy then I’d suggest prioritising speed over TP!)

Thanks Matt. Very useful info. Most likely WT or WTP as Business prices are crazy.

I know I’m not answering your question directly, but if travelling in WT/WTP I would prioritise the best possible journey for comfort rather than TPs. You won’t earn many TPs in those cabins anyway and the discomfort of the journey may outweigh any potential gains. I say this as someone who has gone back and forth a few times to Australia in Y. In terms of product, I do like flying with QR in Y and you would get a few more TPs anyway. Much depends on your preferred itinerary – if you end up breaking the journey in the middle of the night in Doha, you might not enjoy it.

I would definitely follow Harry T’s advice if you’re going in economy or premium economy. Don’t make an unpleasant journey to Australia worse for the sake of a few extra TP. You can earn 160 TP for a return in club to Sofia for <£250 when you come back instead (just one example)

Thanks both. I also prefer speed to destination too so will probably just plan BA to SIN and then down. Or might look at a QR route with a single stop.
