Did you do that online or via the phone? I need to get my head round Qatar bookings using Avios!
Online via the Qatar website. Could also do it via BA, but I want to play around with the booking later and figure it was better to go direct. Found the functionality better too.
I guess I need to open a Qatar account. Do you have any avios in yours? I think I read that if you don’t, it doesn’t let you search as much? I did try opening one before, when there was an article on here about getting 5000 avios (it was a while ago), but the avios never turned up, and my complaint never got answered! I ended up closing the account. Also have a double barrelled surname, and I know there was issues with those and linking to BA account. Guess I need to do a bit more investigation!
stopblock, huge well done on getting your seats! Just think of the early night you can have tonight!!
If I move a pile of avios to my Qatar account in order to book a flight can I move them back to my BA account again if I fail to book?
Also, there should be no need to move them at all if both PC and BA are linked am I right?
Yes you can move them back and forth but you need them in the QR account to make a booking from there as I discovered recently!
The QR account also doesn’t seem to recognise BA status for things like seat selection either!

I see, thanks for confirming. You’d assume that if you can see your points there in a combined fashion you’d not need to move them 🤷🏼♀️

Just FYI I recently booked QR reward flights to/from Oz without needing to transfer any Avios across from BA first (QR account showed correct balance and the ‘transfer’ was done automatically at the time of booking on the QR website).
That’s good to know, @Jamie – a few people said that you do need to move the avios over but now I wonder if I was having difficulties because I had only just linked the two accounts prior to trying to make my booking?
I haven’t tried but I thought the idea was supposed to work as @Jamie. experienced. As long as the BA and QR accounts are linked you can just book a reward via either website and it should automatically transfer tge required Avios between the two. That’s what I read in the T&Cs when QR first adopted Avios and it was recommended to link BAEC and QR.
That said I suspect that it only works if you don’t have a household account.

Could well be related. Incidentally a friend only recently created and linked his QR account and was having issues with certain reward flights not showing up at all on his account (flights were showing as available/bookable in my older account just fine). So possibly some strange IT issues going on in the background!
I know Rob advocates calling rather than booking online for redemption seats at the point of release, but I did it online three times last year for ‘gold dust’ CW seats (to and from Barbados and outbound to Singapore) with success on my desired flights each time, two seats in each case.
It helps to have all the passenger and card details set up before-hand and last time I even went to the extent of using a browser plug-in to pre-populate the web forms so far as possible. Trying to time calling to get through at or just before midnight seems far less likely to work to me, especially earlier last year when there were long and unpredictable wait times due to Covid rebookings.

Yes, you will need to open a Qatar account. No, you don’t have to ‘move’ any Avios across, only link the accounts – you can then see your total Avios balance through either BA or Qatar.
@Amy C and @Anna also.
I find that you will often need to ‘re-link’ your two accounts to see an up to date balance on Qatar though
