I’m faced with a huge layover soon – my connecting Reward flight to Manchester is 11 hours after landing from US.
there are other flights operating between LON-MCR for cash bookings, but no avios – not even in economy.
what are the likely chances of success of getting the Customer services desk to move me onto one of these once I’ve landed at T5 – assuming there are available seats?
Have you tried calling them and asking to be moved to a more reasonable connection?
Very little chance for a free change unless there are irrops or your flight is cancelled.
@AaronC they would likely reprice the entire trip and given how surcharges have increased they would charge Mick those. Plus there still needs to be avios availability on the alternative flight.
I’ve been refused this in the past, even with hand baggage only. If you have checked bags this will make it even less likely, I would guess. You could try calling and asking but they’ll probably say you need avios availability to change flights.
Connecting to and from MAN is becoming worse and worse. I’m now having to fly to LHR at 1300 hours the day before my long haul in a couple of weeks because BA cancelled our later flights and MMB wouldn’t let me choose the last flight of the day, even though there was both cash and avios availability! It’s caused major problems for us getting our pre-departure tests and means we’ll have a very long stopover – I just hope the offerings in the Sofitel lounge are decent!
No chance. Computer will say no.
If I was hand baggage only, I’d take the train.
As a MAN based flyer, threads like this simply serve to remind me why BA has become a carrier of absolutely last resort for me.

This would be refused whatever the final destination airport is.
I think Mick is asking for a same-day appeal to say the lounge staff desk to be moved to an earlier flight. Not calling up well in advance of his trip. I’ve only had to seek a rebooking at the lounge desk once, albeit odd circumstances where HAL or BA were at fault (never been sure who).

correct, yes, once I’ve actually arrived at T5.
Otherwise, its 11 hours in the lounge, and this doesnt sound that exciting, despite the free drinks !!
domestic connections just arent working too well right now. US inbound flights all landing at T5 in the morning, and no connections to Manchester until 8PM and beyond. 🙁
BA is being lauded in the media for “telling people well in advance” about cancelling short haul flights but what they don’t mention is that manyy of these are MAN-LHR where it’s part of a long haul trip. This is causing a huge amount of inconvenience for the passengers involved, e.g. creating very long stopovers as in the cases of @MickS and me, with implications for Covid tests where required. It is definitely another kick in the teeth for customers travelling from the regions.
