Hi all
I’d like to get my family to Singapore in July using miles and vouchers I have but its a bit of a messy situation. We are 2 adults a 10 year old and a 11 month old
I had a flight for myself to Singapore cancelled in April last year that was using a lloyds upgrade voucher, they couldnt offer me any rerouting as they said it would only be valid for avios available seats and the refund would have been without the voucher so it has just been left in limbo until I knew what I wanted to do.
I have another 2 Barclays upgrade vouchers and a new style 241
The 241 voucher shows availability I can use out of the extended pool of seats however I would have to be the primary traveler on this
I understand that I could use the CER process to attempt to get the dates I want for the cancelled flight from last year but would it not be an issue in this scenario because I would be the primary traveler and would need to use that ticket for either my son or wife?
As a last resort we might buy a cash PE seat and just jumble around selecting seats close by but would prefer to get all together in business if we can
You might have left it a bit late for re-routing and have something of a fight on your hands but it might be worth a shot.
Otherwise With the extra availability seats, you can only use the new-style 241s for 2 people on the same booking, one of which has to be the voucher holder (this isn’t the case with the old vouchers, or standard award availability). So it would need to be you and the 10 year old, and a separate booking for wife and toddler, toddler should still be able to go as a lap infant though so it should be possible to add them to either booking.
Based on what you want to do, you have no chance of getting anywhere with the previous booking.
Had it been a rebooking for you maybe with a fight if they didn’t advise you of your rights at the time.
But you can’t insist that they switch the booking to someone else so EC261 really doesn”t help you.
Does the new style 2for1 open up additional seats to more than two passengers if you pay full Avios for the third seat? If so you could try calling to see if that could be combined with a Barclays voucher.
It might be worth looking at Qatar redemption availability for the dates you want. If you don’t have sufficient Avios, using them to upgrade an economy booking looked like potentially good value, though you lose the flexibility of course and you also don’t get lounge access that way (beyond what any status gets you).
The Avios required to upgrade depends on the class of economy ticket you buy, so you can balance cash and Avios requirements to an extent.
Thats an interesting idea about the third seat, I’ll give that a go
Qatar do not take avios bookings for under 2’s in business so that rules them out

Last paragraph doesn’t make any sense! You’d have to pay full avios regardless for the 3rd person on a 241 booking, but it won’t give extra availability for more than 2 pax. The BC is a separate product so the extra availability doesn’t apply and you can’t combine the 2 vouchers on a booking. (So if no standard availability, BC upgrade voucher will be no use here).
BA pointed out is possible to add the 3rd person at 50% off by getting another 241 voucher but that’d take me until September

It’s a reasonable question to ask. If the 2for1 doesn’t open up additional availability beyond the second seat anyway then clearly it won’t help in that respect for the third.
However, there is a still a separate question as to whether, if there were at least one seat available in the standard redemption bucket, the call centre could book one seat from that availability with the BC voucher and two seats using a 2for1 (using the additional availability if necessary) in the same booking.
I know it can’t be done online, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the call centre can’t do it. Has anyone tried?
That said, in this case even snagging a single CW standard redemption seat for Singapore in July is probably highly unlikely.
