Next week I’m flying MAN-LHR-ATL. It seems the BA flight to ATL is departing from T3. When I arrive at Heathrow will I be forced to go to T3? I was planning to meet up with a friend who happens to be in T5 at the same time.
Yes, you cannot get airside at T5 with a T3 boarding pass. Depending on timings you could arrange to meet up landside and then go over to T3 on the tube or train and go through security there
ok, thanks.
Was hoping to meet him in the Concorde lounge – oh well.
The MAN flight may deposit you airside into T5 (possibly depending on which gate you arrive at), but I don’t know if a T3 BP would get you into the CCR. There shouldn’t be anything stopping you meeting your friend somewhere else though, before you transfer to T3. I would give yourself at least an hour to transfer, though, there were long queues for the buses when we did this in the other direction a couple of weeks ago.
It’s a total pain as you also have to clear T3 security – at least this has been the case historically doing T5 – T3 the same day. For a few years now we’ve been doing the MAN-LHR leg the night before and staying near T3 for early departures.
Fortunately I’ve got 7 hours to kill so I can take my time.
it was a similar story last year, I ended up lounge hopping which was quite good.

Just to correct the first line.
There is no way that any arriving flight can deposit you airside at LHR T5 without a boarding pass check.
Domestic arrivals will bypass security and go via the connections desk directly into departures.
It’s all a mote point as has already been mentioned the non T5 boarding pass will not allow entry.
I’ve never properly understood how it works, even though we connect via LHR a few times per year. This is my observation, however: Sometimes we disembark at a gate which leads to 2 options – Connections or Exit landside. But other times we arrive at the same gates that we normally depart from, inside the main T5 departure area. From there we can access T5 lounges and other T5 gates with no further BP or security checks.
We’re headed to T5 twice next month, one just a domestic trip to London and the other connecting to AGP so I will pay more attention! But my last MAN-LHR-AGP went like this – MAN flight landed at the lower A gates, I disembarked, headed to Boots for my click n collect toiletry selection, then went to Galleries South for a couple of hours before my AGP flight. When I did MAN-LHR-GLA in one day last October, however, I did have to go via connections and had the BP check.

Many Glasgow flights drop you airside at T5, usually gate 20/21 in my experience.
