Forums Other Destination advice Low floor Manhattan hotel recommendations

    Hi,

We’ve booked flights to NYC in late August – a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids). I’m now keen to book accommodation – ideally a room with 2 double beds.

The wife isn’t keen on lifts, so ideally I’m looking for accommodation on lower floors – ideally no higher than the 4th floor. Of course, this will mean losing out on skyline views and potentially the better rooms which are higher up for the views.

Any recommendations as to options we should consider? Am not too worried about budget – location is a more important factor (ideally Midtown / Bryant Park / Grand Central and around). Noise may be a concern on a lower floor – especially in busier areas.

    Thanks.

On my last visit to NY I stayed at the Gand Central Hyatt top floor and still had no views (this being NY I could almost touch the next building if I extended my arm).

Just tell the hotel to give you a lower floor room and they would love that vs. putting you on the preferred higher floors.

Thanks – good point. Were you happy with the Grand Central Hyatt?

A hotel having rooms on low floors doesn’t necessarily have staircase access. Some hotels make it very difficult to use the stairs except in an emergency.

We stayed in the Beekman about a year ago. It’s in the FiDi, so not your preferred neighbourhood, but the hotel is stunningly beautiful and has both low rooms and a staircase that we used regularly. The Beekman is part of Hyatt, and regularly features in advertisements that need an effortless chic retro vibe.

@pog whilst in the financial district I’d recommend the Mint House as it’s only 6 stories (of a much taller skyscraper.

Will easily accommodate your family and close to several subway lines.

Thanks @jj and @BA Flyer – I’ll certainly look into those recommendations.

Good transport links would be helpful if a bit further from Midtown!
