First of all, thanks for your on going help.
    Now for luggage clarity.
My ticket says 1x23kg checked bag and 1xCabin bag. My roll along conforms to the rules. But, rather than carry it on board, would they be happy to check it in, or would I have to pay ? (Just thinking about the liquids in the roll along.)

Depends where you are flying to

On some short hauls they will allow it for free but it may only be at the gate. If they are expecting a busy flight they may send an email in advance.

Unless you have another bag to check in you could check in your roll along using that allowance. And if you have one just out your liquids in the checked bag.

Personally, short-haul I always take carry-on where I can (decant liquids into 100ml bottles if needed). Probably saves 30-60 mins per leg. I’m sure airlines have saved some fuel by PAX not bringing big bottles of toiletries 😁 – would be an interesting study…..

If you are already checking in a bag and you don’t have status, then it’s likely you’d need to pay. If it’s a busy flight, then you could “offer” to check your bag at the check-in desk. The other opportunity would be at the gate if the staff are looking for volunteers to check in luggage (again when it’s a busy flight).
