I recently decided to cash in my Hilton Honours points for a 10 night stay at the Conrad in The Maldives this coming April, combining it with a business class BA flight from LHR – Male booked using Avios and my BA Amex 2 for 1 companion voucher.
I am yet to book the return leg as I am toying with the idea of adding a few nights (4 or 5?) in Sri Lanka as I would love to see the elephants, and would love to sort this during the xmas break as I’ve left it late. I can book a fairly inexpensive flight from Male to Columbo, but need to figure out where to stay in Sri Lanka, and how to get back to the UK using the return part of my companion voucher. BA doesn’t fly from Sri Lanka – does anyone have any suggestions? Is Chennai my only realistic option? I’m concious Yala and Udawale are far from the airport so there’s already going to be at least a day of this short trip used up by travel.
Grateful for any advice!
I should have added that I live in Edinburgh so will be connecting back to Edinburgh on the return leg so I’m not totally tied to LHR flights!

Have a start here. Easy hop to Chennai for a return flight using BA. I’m sure you’ll get more answers tomorrow.
April is probably the hottest in Srilanka, so make sure you are ok with the the weather before booking.
In addition to chennai, you can also fly to Bengaluru or Hyderabad which have better airports and some good hotels in case you’d like to take a break.
