Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Manchester Airport hotel – Hilton vs HIE

    Some help please.
I’ve not stayed at the Hilton Manchester airport since they finished the refurb. Last time I had to ask to move rooms as it was so awful.

I’ve stayed at the Holiday Inn Express before and it was mediocre. The Crowne Plaza is closed.

I only have Hilton and IHG points, so my question is, are the (King) beds still rock hard at the Hilton and has it generally improved, or should I stay safe at the HIE?

Also, is the transfer still free from the Hilton to the terminal?

Morning – well, I’m not sure there was a refurb apart from putting up the Doubletree sign! It’s horrendously overpriced and they’ve started charging £15 for parking plus about £4 pp for the minibus transfer to the terminal. We’re still using the hotel as it’s still not a bad deal at 35k points and walkable to the terminal if you’re mobile and don’t have loads of luggage. The transfer is included if you book the hotel plus parking package but this is so expensive atm it’s really not worth it. I’ve always found the beds comfy though and the breakfast is good. You get water and cookies with status, of course.

We have the HIE booked for our next trip from the last £50 off IHG/Amex offer.

Is the CP actually closed or housing refugees (ditto the new HI)? The lack of options at MAN is woeful just now, no wonder the remaining ones are now charging London-esque prices!

The new Holiday Inn Manchester Airport is bookable from 4th January 2023 from just over £100/night. It looks nicer than the new ibis Budget Manchester Airport which also shows prices around £100/night from the same date but doesn’t appear to be bookable yet (and probably won’t participate in ALL). They are right next to each other and close to T2.

I stayed at the Doubletree last month and Anna’s summary is spot on. We walked to the terminal as the minibus fee for 4pax got my miserly back up.

I’ve got the CP booked for next Easter, it was £120 with 15 nights parking. The same deal at the Doubletree is £263! They desperately need some more competition. Last year I contacted them to ask why I should book direct, even as HH gold, when hotels .com was £40 cheaper for one night. They told me to book the cheaper rate and they would still honour my status benefits.

Thanks for all the replies. It’s been a manic day today and just had a chance to properly catch up.

My flight is on December so the new Holiday Inn is no good for me unfortunately. I’ve booked both HIE and Hilton and will make up my mind nearer the time.

I’ve also booked the CP with their stay & park rate for Easter 2023.

I wasn’t aware it was closed / reserved for housing refugees. Is there an end date for this or should I look for alternative hotel?

Bringing this back to life – was just called by IHG stating that the CP at MAN isn’t opening back up to the public. My bookings for March 2023 are therefore cancelled.

No assistance with rebooking other hotels is available, just a straight cancel.

Update from me (as I started the thread):

I ended up using the Radisson Blu attached to the airport. I was flying from T2 anyway and had taken out the Business Platinum so used the £200 travel credit.

I’ve no status in Radisson but they still upgraded me to an executive room which was pleasant (no lounge access though).

The Hilton/DT rooms and rock hard beds are still V poor. So much so I received a 50% refund and 20K points after a strong complaint to the duty manager and a follow up email.

Regardless of not having Radisson points or status I will stay at The Radisson next time for both ease and a reasonably comfortable stay.
