I recently checked out of the Marriott Bournemouth having spent £347 on a 3 night room only stay, excluding any food and drinks which I know are not rewarded at this hotel. I have been awarded 2303 base points for this stay. This seems very low to me and in my opinion should be in the region of 3700 base points. Are my calculations wrong and should I just accept the base points awarded?
It is very common (at least in my experience) that hotels wrongly give me a lower amount of points. It mostly happens to me when the invoice is in a different currency than USD, although recently happened to me in a stay in Chile where I was billed and payed in USD. I would estimate that 50-70% of the time I receive an incorrect amount of points (sometimes 500-1k points less, few times over 10k). It only happens with Marriott, never had the same problem with IHG nor Hilton.
I audit every single transaction and request through email (directly with Marriott, I even have a template email for it) to adjust the amount, usually in 1-2 days they come back, fix it and sometimes offer some additional points as compensation. The email I use for complaints: customer.care at marriott-service.com
Don’t forget to attach the folio. Also I think all hotels must provide points for food/drinks, at least I always request them when complaining and always receive them.
Looks wrong … the system is rubbish and always seem to get the wrong points. I would contact Marriott via Twitter and you’ll probably get the F&B too 🙂
BTW have you registered your card? You can get points on spend at most Marriott hotels in the U.K. even when not staying … working out well for me on a few bars which also trigger the Marriott money off Amex offers
Thanks for the help.
I don’t think the food is allowable for points at this hotel as it is run by brasserie blanc and is not regarded as part of the Marriott Hotel.
@TGLoyalty Registered your card? What/where with?

Here 🙂
Used to be Visa only but Amex works perfectly fine for me.
Like others said, getting fewer points than you should is a semi-frequent occasion with Marriott, which is easily corrected via the ‘Missing Points’ request form. However, in gauging what you should have earned, make sure that your calculation excludes VAT, as that’s does not give any points.
