Good morning. First time staying at Ritz Carlton Dubai and had a notification on my app this morning I can check in for an upcoming stay on Monday. I am Gold through platinum Amex only – it states at the bottom of the check-in page “ gold, elite benefits – eligible for complimentary upgrade”
My question is if I check in on the app, will it possibly ruin my chances of an upgrade?
Any previous experience/advice, appreciated. Thank you.
Sometimes you will be pre-assigned to an upgraded rooms 24-48 hours before. If I see an upgrade to a room I like in the app beforehand, I’ll use the mobile check-in to confirm it as it can sometimes disappear as other members start arriving and checking in throughout the day and they get upgraded.

Ah great. First time using app – sorry so you ‘see’ which room you’ve been assigned? Thanks so much.
It is fine to use mobile checkin with Marriott, it does not do much other than confirm arrival and departure times and credit card details to the front desk. They still process everything manually, including room allocation (unlike Hilton where room assignment is often confirmed at online checkin).
Better hotels will be more prepared for your arrival if you use it, meaning a quicker check in, but generally it does not do much.
The more useful feature is the chat function, where politely asking for a particular room on the morning of arrival (or night before) can be a good approach.

Thank you. Great advice – 🙏 hopefully I’ll get a great upgrade.
