Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Marriott Bonvoy Marriott Gift Card purchase from a UK property front desk?

Does anyone have experience of purchasing a Marriott gift card from a London Marriott property’s front desk?
I’m looking to use the recent Marriott/Amex Cashback offer and then use the gift card for upcoming travels to the US.
    Thanks

Daily Getaways will have $500 Marriot e-Gift Cards for $400 on the 23rd April.

Buy at your own risk though as the offers are “Exclusively for US Residents”, so you need to put in a made-up address with your UK Postcode adapted to the US ZipCode (Eg UK Postcode EH11YZ is Zip code 11000 or EC2R 8EJ is ZipCode 28000) and things could go a bit wrong.

Looks like you can only buy them online in USD and there’s restrictions on where you can spend them

I’ll be near Waterloo after work next Wednesday so will pop into the Count Hall Marriott and see if I can buy a gift card! I’ll report back next week

Thanks – I trust if I brought the gift card online it wouldn’t activate the Amex cashback. I’ll be staying at a US Sheraton and Westin in a couple of weeks, so it would be handy if I could spend £400 on a gift card in the UK, which equates to c.$500 and therefore save some FX fees vs using the Amex card at the hotel (and also the Marriott/Amex cashback doesn’t apply to US properties)

Be warned the fx rates aren’t favourable. Probably won’t lose 25% of the value but don’t be surprised if you lose 5-10%

    Worth checking flyertalk.

I ended up being in town yesterday and popped by the Bankside Hotel – they don’t sell Marriott Gift Cards at the front desk , and their suggestion was to buy from the Marriott website.
