    I’m a Marriott gold member on a plat status challenge (direct with Marriott )

    I’m 2 nights short and need to stay these nights by the end of next week as the 90 days to earn the 16 nights finish’s then

    Due to my work and location there are no Marriott brand that close to we’re I live , I can’t physically make a trip .

    Someone said some Marriott chains allow you to check in online and get a digital room card so you can by pass check in and not actually be physically there to stay

    Any one done this and could recommend a Marriott chain where this works in the uk

    I don’t know about Marriott but I’ve always had to be inside a Hilton property to be able to get the digital key – and once I got a message that it wasn’t working and I needed to go to reception anyway! I think some people book rooms for other people who can use them, or at least physically check in.

    I don’t think this will work at a Marriott – they usually ask for ID at check in, issue a physical key card, and then activate the digital key a short while later. I’ve never known them issue the digital key to the app without having to go to reception first.

    In terms or least risk from a cost perspective the Moxy at Aberdeen airport is one of the lowest priced Marriott hotels (not unusual for rates to be £50).
    (Doesn’t help you with the Digital check-in/ Card angle, though.)

    I’m sure if you booked a couple of nights at The Langley or the London Edition, one of the core HFP readership would probably offer to check in for you!

    I stayed at the Aberdeen Moxy recently for 5 nights (on points with 5th night free). I had to leave after the 3rd night due to a family emergency (2hrs away) but expected to return for the 5th night. I explained the situation to the hotel asking to keep the reservation open as I was hoping to return for the last night. The receptionist was fine with this but a few hours later I discovered the remainder of my stay had all been cancelled. Apparently the manager wasn’t happy and insisted we had to physically stay in the hotel due to fire safety reasons and were not allowed to leave the room empty even for one night. I said I was planning to return but was told I would have to pay the (now far more expensive) extra night. I decided not to return, luckily I had packed all my stuff just in case. I really wish I hadn’t been as honest with the hotel and should have just kept quiet!

    What absolute nonsense. So do you have to be back in your room by a certain time to stop them cancelling after a night out? Or not leave before 6am even if you have an early flight? Would be interesting to know if there is anything in the terms and conditions….

    Never tell them you’re going to leave. It’s not their business the room is yours you can come and go as you please.

    The manager just wanted to sell your room and made some nonsense excuse.

    Anyway in my experience for a mobile key at Marriott properties in U.K. you pretty much always have to pop past reception to get it activated. I think I’ve had it sent to me without doing that about 10% of the time. Even then they know when it’s been used or not so again pot luck if they notice you didn’t use it or not.

    There’s really no Marriott you can drive to check in and leave?
