Forums Other Destination advice May 23: Argentina or Sri Lanka?

  • 69 posts

    Hi All

Looking to go away for our 10th anniversary.
It’s in mid May, but we could do something early or late.

Argentina and Sri Lanka have been on her hit list for ages.

But, both have had torrid times recently.

Given the month we want to travel, and the current state of the country/tourism which would you recommend?

Holiday would be a mix of activities/sightseeing with a bit of luxury relaxation.

Money is a key concern as well – we’ve just done a house reno – which would be cheaper?

    Thank you

Can’t help with the answer but we are travelling to Sri Lanka in January. Everything I’m reading is positive about what to expect right now.

Stating maybe the obvious but given southern hemisphere Argentina will be going into winter in May. Buenos Aires/Mendoza should be maxing at no more than 20C, and Patagonia significantly lower.

Argentina remains a relatively affordable destination, but you’ll need to deal in cash using the blue dollar exchange rate (either by wiring yourself money to a Western Union outlet, or changing USD in exchanging offices). Meat and quality red wine galore though! Plenty of threads on the topic on the internet for latest advice.

(I can’t help re: Sri Lanka, I was there many years ago).
