Visiting Miami for a couple of days next week with my 19-year-old son, who has expressed a desire to go there while we’re in Florida for a week.

Any IHG hotel recommendations? I’m torn between the IC downtown or one of the Kimptons on Miami Beach. Frankly I’d like just a decent base, as we’re not exactly beach dwellers. I have points to burn (but happy to do cash if better) and Diamond Elite status.

We have zero plans at this point – any pointers for cool things to do while there appreciated too. I’ve been once before but didn’t do a great deal beyond wandering about and watching a game at the stadium.

    Thanks.

I can’t compare it to any others but we had a great stay at the Kimpton Epic. Great upgrade and the free breakfast served until 2.30pm on weekends.

Miami Heat are playing at home on Tuesday!

Beware, the Kimptons on South Beach, not all of them even have breakfast available on site, and so you won’t get the free breakfast benefit.

I really like the Kimpton Palomar, and stay there regularly. From 1 November they have started offering breakfast as the Diamond welcome amenity.

Stayed at Kimpton Surfcomber in August. Received free breakfast vouchers as diamond. Nice enough hotel, not a big fan of Miami or South Beach to be honest.

Kimpton Epic is by far the best

Of course depending on what you are looking for.

IC is not the latest greatest but has a decent lounge (if of course you can access) and reasonably sized rooms with views across the bay and cruise terminals, Next to marina and bay area for restaurants etc and sometimes live gigs. Bricknell an easy walk and Miami beach a short Uber away.

Stayed at the EPIC in september, great breakfast offered – although they messed it up at checkin/out. At checkin they guy didnt seem to know what the rule was and I was told I had a daily $60 limit (which for 2 is easy to hit) – at checkout I had been charged full rate and they said I should have got a voucher and no limit – they just wiped the charges.

Nice pools to relax by, The whole foods nearby does nice take out pizza. We didnt hire a car for that part of our trip, but the valet service looked a bit haphazard
