Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Miles upgrade but not taken my points

  • 34 posts

    Hi Guys

I know time will answer this questions but its driving me a little crazy (Undiagnosed OCD?) I upgraded our return journey in May to UC with 50k points (+ £480ish), this was last Monday I think, the points have not been taken! I did become very friendly and have a good laugh with the person on phone and so i’m wondering do they have the power to not take the points if they like you? or does it just take a while sometimes? the last upgrade had the points gone on the same day. The other possibility could be they used the companion voucher that I had collected from the Virgin + 10k spend maybe? I am not sure where that is or was to check. If it was taken instead of the points, that sounds like a bad deal as I think I could have exchanged it for an UC flight which is more than the 50k? sorry, should I just wait and see, its not like I am in a desperate need to use the points until FEB 23 when next flights become available.

There are usually two reasons for this happening. The first is that you’re not seeing the points being taken if you’re viewing your Flying Club account via VAA’s website or app – there is a delay to them showing there. Try the Virgin Red app, as that shows much faster.

The second reason is that your upgrade hasn’t yet been ticketed. Given your flight is in May, that’s quite likely as ticketing is usually done in a pseudo-priority order. You can confirm this in the VAA app, by looking next to each passenger’s name – you should see the letter G next to them. Each passenger should also have a listed ticket number. If, a week before your flight, this hasn’t been ticketed, call them and they’ll push it through.

Thankyou very much for your reply, I have looked at the APP and we do indeed have “1a / Upper Class (G)” for both of us, both directions, still showing the points in my account of the Virgin Red App too, weird huh.

There is a third reason, which you refer to in your original email, where they may have chosen or forgotten to do this- something similar happened to me, same class and use of voucher as you. In which case sssshhhhh!

Yea I can confirm it is possible to get lucky with Virgin Atlantic, and likewise unlucky (I’m still waiting on a points rebate from the ‘50% back’ offer from the end of October.

Have you actually been ticketed, though? Do you have ticket numbers for each pax. starting 932? If you don’t, you’ll have to call to have that fixed. If you do, congratulations on winning the points lottery!

On the VA App, I login with booking ref, I get the vs129/130 then our names, when I click on names I get a drop down menu with e-ticket numbers 9322….. for both ways, both people, could they have used the companion voucher I believe I earned from spending £10k?

Plausible, but they should have told you that on the phone. Call and ask.

Not all points activity seems to show on the Flying club website or app any more, defo worth checking Virgin Red activity.

When I used my credit card upgrade voucher I could see a £0 “VS credit card upgrade redemption” in Virgin Red activity. You could check but I think it’s unlikely they’ve used that without talking about it.

I really wouldn’t call or draw this to their attention, if the points really haven’t been taken it’s highly likely a simple human oversight when processing the upgrade which is quite clearly in your favour.

I’m pretty sure I have found the voucher, no signs anywhere if them taking the points, happy days, thanks!
