Does anyone know if regular pension income counts as personal income for the purposes of card eligibility?
Yes – however Amex doesn’t seem too keen if you put “retired” as occupation – odd, as a pension is about the most guaranteed income you can have! If you do still do some kind of work, it’s safer to put that as your job, even if the income from it is less than the pension.
Yes it counts, but I was turned down on the retired ticket. However homemaker worked for me with Barclaycard Avios, but no doubt the two cards have different algorithm’s.
Beyond the State pension I wouldn’t describe a pension income as the most guaranteed other than if you have a Final Salary Pension. If you have your own private pension you can flex it to provide the income you want / need each year but it’s certainly not guaranteed.
Mine is guaranteed as public sector but Amex still declined the application. When I put “tutor”, which brings in a tiny amount of extra income, I was accepted.
My retired husband was approved for the BAPP recently but he has had the Plat card for over 20 years and he did have the BAPP just over 2 years ago.
@NorthernLass – try telling public sector employees in Ireland and Greece that their public sector pensions were guaranteed! I think you also mentioned the concept of ‘safe seats’ prior to last Thursday…
