Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Missing Avios helpline – can’t get through as always ‘too busy’

  • 61 posts

    Hi all

I’m chasing up some missing Avios due to me for BA flights that I booked using my BA Amex.

I keep dialling the Avios team on 0344 493 0747 and each time I go through the automated options, I get the recorded message saying they are too busy and cut me off. Have tried a few days now and no luck

Is there another number I can dial to speak to an agent? I’ve not got any special status sadly.

Have you tried using the missing avios claim form on the website or the chat function?

Thanks for the reply – didn’t know there was as a BA chat function … will check it out

just checking here- why do you think you’re owed the Avios? If it’s a cash ticket you bought and flew yourself then you’re due Avios from Amex – credited on your statement and Avios into your Exec club account. If the latter are missing then you just fill out the form online like @BA Flyer IHG Stayer says and they’d likely credit instantly

If you booked for other people then you’d only get them onto your Amex statement with your other purchases.

    Hi Sam

I booked 4 x tickets for a group via Expedia (BA flights and hotel) – I didn’t travel but I paid using my BAPP.

The flight were attributed on my statement to British Airways … total spend of £1052 so I was expecting 3 x Avios points per £1 spent. However, I see only 832 Avios in the Avios statement under ‘AMEX BA SPEND’

I think the issue here is the 3x Avios requires you to book direct with BA. The fact that amex picks up flight info. such as airline and ticket class/names doesn’t change this fact.

It’s odd though that it’s classified as ‘Amex BA Spend’ though

And can’t work out what the figure of 832 relates to in terms of my total spend

You should have said that in your first post. You gave the impression you were missing avios from flights not from CC spend.

The former is a BAEC issue the latter for AMEX to deal with (and you’ve now been given an explanation)

I’m not sure but you need to query it with American Express. BA won’t help you.

The card terms state the following so sadly it’s a non-starter:

“You will usually earn Avios at the following rate:
    • 1.5 Avios for every £1 spent on purchases using your Card Account; and
    • an additional 1.5 Avios for every £1 spent on purchasing British Airways flights and holidays *directly via the British Airways website* (so 3 Avios for each £1 spent in total on these purchases).”

Curious why £1052 of spend only generated 832 Avios, though. Even without the BA bonus, it should have been 1578 on the BAPP surely? There isn’t something that excludes taxes/fees/surcharges from the earnings is there?!

One to chase with Amex rather than BA.

There is a lag between Avios earnings visible in the app and on the pdf statement – towards the end of the month the BA spend may be on the statement but not the Avios due from it (they will show on the following month’s statement). But in this case, as the Expedia spend wasn’t classed as BA spend at all, the statement figure for “AMEX BA SPEND” is likely related to other transactions, that were actually made at BA.com?
