Recently flew Qatar Airways from Rome to Doha to KL. We received the Rome to Doha avios and tier points with =in a few days but have still not received the Doh to KL ones. That flight was operated by MAS but we had a QR flight number.
We have been told that we must chase up with BA which we have done but to date no progress.
Can anyone advise why we have to follow up with BA when it was a Qatar flight operated by MAS that hasn’t been delivered? Qatar have told us that they cannot help despite it being their flight that we purchased.
Curious as to how the system works
You need to follow up with BA because you are seeking to have Avios and TP posted to your BAEC account, so BA will pursue with the relevant airline. They can often be very slow and may require chasing.
You have to fill in the claim missing avios form on this page https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/executive-club/avios
It will likely takes months and some chasing.
My claim from an August flight with Tarom to credit to Virgin took 3.5 months despite my VS number being on the booking and on the boarding pass.
Thanks. Have filled in the form and now chased up on chatline so fingers crossed. I am curious to how the system works. How does BA know when to add the tier points? I guess the partner is responsible somehow for informing BA. So claiming Avios flying Qatar on flight operated by MAS requires MAS to tell Qatar/BA somehow. Who is at fault if missing? Shouldn’t the company I purchased ticket from be responsible for managing? They say not. Talk to BA and wait 28 business days to 8 weeks.
I suspect your problem is the booking / fare class on the QR ticket that you flew on Malaysian is not eligible for TP or Avios when on a Malaysian flight number. It is eligible when booked as a QR flight number, but the system seems to not recognise this and assumes you are on the Malaysian flight number There was a similar case on P Class fares on Cathay Pacific not being recognised by BAEC.
The methods that appear to work to reolve it are Chat and emailing ec.documents@ba.com or “Any Other Reason” off this screen:

Thanks AJA. Looks like that may fit. We travelled on I class on way out and that is indeed different on MAS showing as upgraded economy rather than business on Qatar. Not sure what will happen on return flight as we are class R which does not seem to exist on MAS.
After a long chat with BA online we have registered the missing points and the agent seemed to agree that we are indeed due the points. But then this morning I checked my earlier request for missing tier points on partner airlines via my account and found it has been rejected – see email for reason but no email received. Looks like its going to be a long drawn out discussion with BA unfortunately.
But at least now I have some idea why the problem has arisen. Thanks again
@KLflyer you’re welcome. I suspected it was an I class issue. You will definitely have an issue with the R class fare in the return trip, for the same reason.
Use the link to the BA page I provided in my previous answer and scan the boarding passes highlighting your QR flight numbers together with a short explanation of the issue ie QR flight numbers in Classes R and I when flown on Malaysian Airlines are eligible for Avios and TP with BAEC.
Might also be helpful to upload a screen shot of the QR earnings table on BAEC.
@KLflyer Can you tell me how you got on with claiming your Avios points in the end?
I flew with Cathay Pacific in early June, and I have followed the same drawn out process as you to get my Avios points credited to my BAEC account. The claim was rejected without anyone at BA able to tell me why. I’ve sent them my e-ticket four times now without a resolution. First, they said wait 10 days, and then 10 days turned into 28 days. BA have said it’s Cathay who should process the claim, while Cathay say it’s BA who I should contact. My BAEC membership number is clearly printed on the Cathay e-ticket, so it’s unclear why this isn’t a straightforward case for them.
Still waiting on some from CX back in March. Annoyingly it’s 10k Avios or so and 190 TPs. Basically given up on this now.

Was you on a CX qualifying fare code for the BA Exec club? Because previously there was an issue with some fare classes not qualifying under BA.
