Hi,
I am looking to pay a one off payment to my mortgage, could i use this card to do that and thus ge the avios or would it be seen as a cash advance to the bank? I phoned barclaycard and they were hopeless, they couldn’t give me a straight answer! Thanks
The first question is what kind of payment methods does your mortgage provider accept? Some banks will only accept bank transfers, a few seem happy with debit cards, I can’t see many letting you make a cc payment. So even if Barclays said it was fine and they wouldn’t apply any charges (unlikely), it wouldn’t work if your lender doesn’t accept it.
I have used Curve (linked to Barclaycard Avios) to make a small payment to my Barclays mortgage as a test (they accept debit card).
this all worked and I got the Avios as well
Tha is for the replies, it’s with natwest and they allow credit card payments. I did a test payment of £100, so I will phone barclays later and see if it was processed as a cash transfer or not
Does anyone have any experience of this with Halifax mortgages?
Regardless of whether your lender accepts cc payments, I imagine most card companies take an extremely dim view of people using them to make mortgage payments.
Poster upthread has used a Barclaycard with Barclays mortgage… I’m not sure whether this is brave, stupid or both. However, I would have thought that Barclays could look to award Avios (whether per £ or a set amount) per year as a reward for holding both the card and the mortgage product. I believe other banks have done similar in the past.

Ummm… I wouldn’t.
I can’t think of a better method for making sure it would be processed in a way you don’t want it to be.
Just wait and see for yourself. On a one off irregular amount you may be ok. Not so much, if you phone.
A few years ago Natwest’s payment via online processed without fee, but if you call to overpay they processed with fee. Don’t call just wait till the transaction fully posted.
I’ve just phone Nationwide. As expected, no way of paying mortgage using credit card. Also asked if I could make overpayments using any credit card. Still no, overpayments are drawn from the same current account as main payment, no option to pay through separate route.
It was the answer I expected but thought it was worth asking re overpayments.
