I need to do two trips, and was wondering if there were any way I could use a multicity 241:
Could I do LHR – YVR – JNB – LHR?
Yes the YVR would be via LHR, so I would have double-backed.
I can do YVR – JNB return online using the 241 (180,000 Avios + £950) and it even allows a stopover in London for free each way (very generous given APD). But i ideally would like to do the start/end in London. Is this possible? I realise it is taking the mickey a bit…!
@points_worrier – you would have to ask BA! They are somewhat variable as to what they will and won’t allow. The issue, as I see it, with your preferred routing starting/ending in London and including a stopover in London is that it’s effectively either two return trips or the trio to/from JNB is a side trip, neither of which would be allowed.
Interesting question @points_worrier.
I’ve been looking at Buenos Aires to Johannesburg via London returning back to somewhere in the Americas. Not sure if this is possible/acceptable and whether I can stopover in London in either direction or whether it needs to be non stop. Please update. From what @JDB says, looks like I need to ring BA.
So the actual route would be
LHR-YVR-LHR-JNB-LHR?
I don’t think that would be acceptable for the reasons @JDB gave.
You can definitely book, e.g. NYC-(LHR)-DXB-(LHR)-NYC with the companion voucher online, with stopovers. Whether routings which will require BA intervention, such as open jaw, or adding the return later, are doable probably depends very much on the agent. It’s also not clear whether BA would agree to add domestic connections to such a booking.
@NorthernLass – very interesting. Will play around more on the website. I’ve been able to do one way without stopover, but I think for open jaw a call will be needed.

The legitimacy of the NYC-DXB return routing you have cited wasn’t/isn’t in doubt any more than the one for which the OP quoted a price YVR-JNB-LHR-YVR however, the OP’s preferred routing LHR–YVR-LHR-JNB–LHR is an entirely different construct in fact and/or fare construction terms.
