Just out of curiosity what do people use their relationship managers for with these “premier” services ?
I don’t do my investing with a bank as my OH is in the “trade” and does it via Interactive Brokers. Life insurance etc all done via an FA. Mortgage via a whole of market broker. So they’ve nothing to cross sell me and it is very rare that I need to speak to my bank.
I am Premier with HSBC but didn’t find that it particularly helped when I moved abroad for example. Barclays send me the odd message inviting me for a review which I ignore !
But back to the topic at hand , Natwest IT does seem quite slick and I increased my mortgage last year which went very smoothly

Their chit chat has been quite useful. Once to suggest putting an account in joint names to get 2 dragon passes, once to remind me that we had benefits I’d forgotten about eg they got rid of a wasps nest and unblocked a drain, both I’d forgotten I was covered for. Another time they nudged the mortgage department who were being irritatingly slow.

I think the days of the RM adding much value are long gone. Now they just want to x sell. I’ve told them I’m not interested as I can sort out the things I want to myself so better for them to not waste my time or their’s… they haven’t contacted me since which is great. I wants the benefits, not the hard sell

As others have said, there’s hardly any value from the RMs. But sometimes they can help when it comes to some mundane things like following up on a query or application etc.
I’ve had Premier with both HSBC and Barclays and haven’t had contact from my RM from either bank. I don’t even know who my RM is!!
Anyway, I opened a reward account with NatWest in the end. I’m waiting for my Barclays account to switch over. I’m already able to use the app. Will try to switch it to Premier in a few months.
Interesting thread. I’m closing my Barclays account so the Natwest switch for £200 is tempting especially given the good reviews here. Premier for £2 a month seems a win (up to £10 Cashback each month). Does anyone have the reward black and think it is worth it (£31 per month)

Yes I do, have considered many other ‘packaged’ accounts but as Natwest is my main bank and never run into any problems with them personally, I have always stuck with them. Suspect whether it’s ‘worth-it’ will really depend if you need/want the extra stuff bundled in.
I finally upgraded to the Premier last year, which also allows you to get the Black Credit Card with no annual fee (0.5% cashback on all spend, and 1% on supermarket spend; think fuel spend also counts at supermarkets) – not bad for a MC with 0% forex fee abroad on both the debit and credit cards.
For me, the Worldwide travel insurance Insurance and Mobile Phone insurance covers the cost of the account, + the £10 cashback from the 2x DDs. Nice perk to have Dragonpass included as they sometimes have lounges that Amex Plat/Priority Pass doesn’t have. Other stuff like Car breakdown cover and home emergency call out; if you need all of that then it’s great value.
Other soft perks like discounted Cinema tickets, a decent Cashback on Ticketmaster and ‘Concierge’ to help get you a sports ticket, or restaurant etc. For me, the Natwest bank app is the best in the business.

Thanks for sharing.
I currently have First Directory for car breakdown (and mobile cover though Curve Metal also covers that) and as it’s in a joint account so covers both of us. I assume would need a joint Natwest account to share the benefits in the same way?
Also do you happen to know which cinema chains they offer the tickets to?

Interestingly enough no, their policy covers you, your partner, and kids under 18 if any for upto 4 claims a year. Excess is £100 though, is that higher than Curve? I’ve claimed a few times over the years and always in my case instant approval and a new phone out within 1-2 days. On Cinema – on the member portal it says Vue, Odeon, Showcase, Empire as the main ones and there’s a few more regional/local cinemas.

The biggest minuses for me, compared to Amex plat for example, is that lounge pass is issued only for the account holder. Even if you make it a joint account, you wouldnt get guaranteed free access for kids. The second is hotel status. Hilton gold is decent value considering free breakfast, possible upgrades, late checkout and fifth night free on redemptions.
Tbf, these are two very different packages – Natwest is effectively £21 a month vs plat £48.Interesting thread. This is why, for me, it doesnt make sense. Also the hotel status that you get with plat seem so stay live even when your play is closed

Have applied and so far, so good. When do rewards offers start appearing?
Just to add few comments having read some poster confusing contribution:
– in my experience (I have premier type accounts with all available banks in the Uk) RBS/NatWest were the stricter, wanted to see P60 and/or other proof of income. After being a customer for a long while, the final review went smoothly by it still happened. I have read report of “false” declarations and then being spot checked and account and relationship closed with the whole NatWest groups (which will also be reported to National Hunter, so not worth it IMHO).
– best rewards to Avios conversion rate is to do £20 at the time for 2350 Avios. The £10 and £50 conversion options work out slightly worst.
– discussion in this thread as been mostly about the £2 pm Premier Rewards account or the free Premier account, but then someone started talking about the perks which are actually only available to the £31 pm Premier Black account. Most of the perks they offer can be had cheaper from NationWide FlexPlus (minus the concierge) and apply to the whole family (including mobiles). I would also argue that if you already have Amex Platinum, there is little point in Reward Black (personally over the last two years I have made great use of both Hotels and Car Rental status with free upgrades, breakfast, late checkouts etc) which between the £300 dine in credit, £100 HN and several cashback a offer (just on girl I got another £50), it may end up costing less then £100 per year (for insurance and lounges, the concierge has become virtually useless).
– CS has been great, I still get served mostly in branch, but when calling in, it has always been a UK based employee, that tried to genuinely help. Barclays Premier CS has gone downhill and worsen more since they loosen up qualification criteria, so to me they completely diluted the product.

by way of update but the end of day 7/8.
Thanks for all your help everyone. Managed to get Premier by upgrading the standard Rewards account that I used to switch. All good so far.
Does anyone know how the credit card plays with curve?

Be more specific? You can use it with curve, it depends on what you mean by playing..

fair point. I’m interested to know if it charges for fronted transactions or goes through with no fees?
