Need status at time of booking ?

Recently lost silver , but considering the hilton debit card to get gold for a potential booking.
Would it be OK to book with no status, and acquire gold near to time of actual stay ?

It’s your status at check in/out that matters, not when you book.

However, sometimes the hotel doesn’t refresh your status on their system until you arrive and remind them.

Not sure if changes to Hilton’s IT have ended this problem, but if hotel is known to go above and beyond for Gold, may be worth contacting them shortly before the stay too

Also make sure to select your “My Way” benefit before you check in in case it defaults to something you don’t want and the hotel insists on giving you (e.g.) 1000 points instead of 2 free breakfasts!

In the current buy points promotion. Which ends tomorrow. I can “only” purchase 320k ( 160 + 160)
But need 480k for potential redemption. Also says in the t&c that max purchase in calendar year is 160k.

I’m thinking,in no particular order 🙂

1/ ignore current promo and hope I can buy 240 + 240 in next one.

2/ buy the 320k now, then get OH to sign up to HH and her to buy and xfer to me after the ( 3 month ? ) waiting period, if there is an offer on.

3/ think of a new plan….

240 + 240 is available on some promotions .. I purchased 480k points earlier this year. And yes .. it’s definitely status at check in that counts, not when you book.
