Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes Never use an OTA, except when you should…? Experience with Expedia + Ryanair

I tend to book direct with airlines, as it doesn’t usually save money booking through an agent, and the hassle with Online (OTAs) if/when something goes wrong or needs changing doesn’t seem worth the agro. I have used “real” travel agents to book flights though, often getting a good deal/service.

Last week I needed to book for a friend, travelling on Ryanair. Booking through Expedia offered

    – Onekey cash earned on a small proportion of the flight cost
    – Onekey cash bonus of £ 20 for booking a return, with a tight expiry window
    – 12% back on Complete Savings (not sure if that will track to payout, but so far so good)
    – same price as booking direct

The flight is in a few days so minimal chance of a change being required, and with Ryanair they’re impossible anyway AFAIK. Seems too good to be true, I was expecting Expedia to uplift the price by at least a tenner each way over doing direct.

Isn’t that exactly what Ryanair kicked off about a year ago or so? They were suing OTAs for marking up their tickets. Quite tidy if you can get a nice set of rebates like this, mind.

I see just this week, Booking.com are once again selling FR flights.
