I applied yesterday after cancelling my card before the end of last year. It said more checks are needed and that they’d get back to me in 5 days working days. I’m likely going to be out my house after tomorrow, and I’ve had no emails or anything acknowledging my application. Do Barclaycard just do everything via post, based on what what previously discussed? Has anyone made an application recently?
I’ve found they do everything by post, from experience they never provide updates via email or telephone, they will write to you.
It’s very archaic in that sense, but you’ll just have to be patient.
I did once chase them up for an update via telephone but that took ages as the department with Barclaycard are hard to get hold of, and even then I was just told to expect a response by letter.
I managed to get approved for one 4 or 5 weeks ago. The card arrived by post quite swiftly after my application. I don’t remember any emails to say it was on it’s way. The pin letter arrived a couple of days later. They now email me once a month with an avios update.

I’m assuming your application was approved on the spot?

Yes it was, I think I went through their eligibility checker first and then just went for it.
Took about 10 days from my recent application, first I knew I had been approved was when I could see the Barclaycard in the Barclays app.
I also seem to have received a sign up bonus for spending £3k, which I wasn’t expecting, as I held the card about a years ago.

Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind.

I see this in the terms and conditions: (hope it will apply to Mrs MacK if she reapplies before the 2 years are up, since she got the £200 limit card, and had to cancel.)
3.2 …If you close your card account after you receive your Avios Welcome Bonus and then open
another Barclaycard Avios card account within 2 years after you closed the original account, you will not be
eligible for another Avios Welcome Bonus.
I’m not sure how good Barclays IT is from my experience …. NOV I earned the premier bank account avios welcome bonus of 25k … switched the account to another bank to get the switch bonus (Barclays account closed due to switch) in JAN I switched back to Barclays premier account enrolled in the avios program and just recently got the 25k welcome bonus again …. I might of been lucky who knows !!
Well, just after I wropte about Mrs Mack…… a letter from Barclays!
“We have applied an incorrect charge on your account in the past…….we’re refunding you … Plus 8% interest.”
So £20 refunded, plus £3.04 minus 61p tax.
Would like to add that I’ve not received anything in the post nor have I received any emails or text regarding my application. I’ll call them up from a number that CS had provided.
Barclays have also done a few soft searches with AF as the code. Not sure if this is due to me having the 0% financing for an iPhone last September or if the CC eligibility checkers are triggering this. There was one dated yesterday even though I’ve not done anything that required a soft check…
@Maples I applied approx 8 weeks ago and the card arrived 5 or 6 days after I applied. No emails just turned up snail mail in a fancy cardboard wallet thing, with various inserts explaining how the card works.
Got a notification with ClearScore that there was a hard search done on the 19th. I think they’ve finally got round to my application.
I can now see the account in the Barclays app. Seems like it took until the 19th to get anyone to check and then get approved. Quite a long and boring process.
Credit limit is also £9000 now. I had cancelled the card 7-8 months ago because they wouldn’t budge from the £250 limit they gave me. Looks like a 0% purchase card with 90% utilisation didn’t hamper me.
Surprisingly the welcome bonus spend counter is there for 5000 Avios. Not sure if I’ll hit it because I’m focusing on the BAPP right for the next 3 months before they increase the threshold.
Card’s here and the whole thing took 3 weeks. Probably a decent timeframe for Barclays.
Reading this prompted me to reapply for the Avios BC. I applied when it 1st came out, got approved but could only get £200 credit limit.
I am financially self funded these days and after many calls and sending of bank statements, BC could not accept that I had sufficient income to get an increased credit limit.
I eventually gave up and cancelled the card.
On Tuesday I reapplied and got accepted immediately with a £9k credit limit.
The card arrived this morning, Thursday. Happy Days!
I wonder if they had issues handing out higher credit limits before due to a lot of people signing up back then, and things have settled down. I was led to believe that Barclaycard offer low limits but they’ve now offered me the highest so far on account opening.
