I noticed this on leaving the train station when I took my great-niece to see Shrek the Musical in the holidays!
From the IHG website, it looks to be opening soon and shares the same excellent room design (for a HI) as the HI MAN.
On the downside the location is pretty grim, next to Blackpool North station, and summer prices are very high. In the winter it can be had for around £100/20k per night so a possible mattress run if you’re in the area anyway, though the Preston one is a fair bit cheaper (and in an equally grim location 😂)
HFP should have another trip up north and review it.
£100 in winter seems very high, it’s only an HI… And the 99.9% of non diamonds will have to pay another £15 for breakfast

I’m at the HI at Amex sue Mer at the moment and it’s in the £75/per night area at the moment for a double. (Though I’m paying 13k for a sea front balcony room as all rooms were available for points)
So unless there’s something big on Blackpool a £100/night does seem a stretch.

Or they could go for the cook-to-order experience from a Blackpool greasy spoon.
Never believe rates until its actually open .. though the state of some Blackpool hotels might be worth paying £25 extra not to share with rats
Lol, I recall staying in couple of very basic B & B’s in my youth!
I remember working in a couple of basic B&Bs in my youth, I also worked on the Central Pier on the prize bingo. I was brought up just outside Blackpool, when I was a kid we went on trips of the ‘luminations whilst the adults had a meat raffle and a mucky comedian.
We’d go on the occasional Saturday in the summer as a treat to have fish and chips and ice cream and a go on the 2p machines in the arcade, and then in the autumn for the illuminations. The thrill of sitting in traffic looking at some lights through a rain-spattered Ford Cortina windscreen!
Then in the 90s it was THE place for stag and hen dos, and the occasional grown-up day/night out. I had the privilege of being one of the first people to go on The Big One when it opened, lol.
It retains some surprisingly good theatre – a relic of the days when (apparently) the likes of the Rat Pack were regular performers!
Can’t offer much on the HI, but my wife actually likes Blackpool and suggests it ever so often. I could say I’m not overly keen, but I would go as far as saying I detest the place. She just keeps saying I’m a snob, but I much prefer Scarborough and Filey myself.
Above the Tram depot, backing onto the Railway Station, across from a late night music venue, Gay Bar central around the corner, what’s not to like?

We had to go there once as our son was playing in an inter school golf competition nearby. It was eye openingly run down, aka grotty. My son was disappointed when asked if he wanted some scallops to get greasy potatoes. In the morning my wife was escorted out of the breakfast room – men only. At lunch she was asked to remove her shoes before entering the dining room owing to allegedly wearing trainers. We won’t be returning to check out the new HI or the area generally.
The Hampton is not that bad. When I stayed I saw an Emirati(?) couple and their baby checking in with their chauffeur and maid. That morning there had been the usual Dubai bashing on HFP
Also reminds me of the time I stayed in the nearby HI Lancaster, 3 tries to get a room that had been made up. I don’t use hotel toiletries but the previous occupant had stolen the big Soak bottles, fortunately the guy had come with me the 3rd time to see if the room was ok. Breakfast was very good though
People make Places! Sometimes the most grim of places are transformed just my meeting the right person/people at the right time. Have many fond memories of Blackpool as a kid and one especially fond memory as a teen. More recently visits have been very rare and not so pleasing. Have also been a Brighton loads, more so in recent decades. I really cannot see much difference, both much the same to me. Of anything Blackpool is probably got more going for it as a family destination. Both badly need hotel and B&B improvements. They’re British seaside resorts, people usually either love them or hate them.
The Scots were always incredibly fond of Blackpool, they must get really fed up with living surrounded by all that natural beauty!
@JDB, you make me laugh, I think you are more Lytham St Annes, or possibly Southport! This reminded me of my son’s first flight on a LCC when he asked very loudly why we had to pay for our food onboard 😂

You seem to know that location awfully well… 🙂
