Hi I’m new to this and just got my Barclay Avios (the £20 PM one). My wife has a joint card with me but not a BA Exec Club account.
We go to our daughters in Australia (flying to Melbourne usually Premium Economy) every 18 months or so. I know BA is probably not the best for using my points/rewards and realise that if i use Qatar, which< appears to be the better option then I don’t get the Cabin Upgrade.
Can anyone advise the best way to “manage” the BA Club eg should is set up a separate account for my wife?
Im just looking at building up points so that we could upgrade one of our trips in a couple of years time.
Any advise on collecting for Australia would be helpful.
Thanks
You’re going to need a strategy if you’ve just started collecting avios and want to use them to go to Australia. The best thing you can do is immerse yourself in the excellent series of articles here, and also have a read through any threads on here relating to booking award seats to OZ.
You can only upgrade an avios booking with the Barclays voucher, so you will need to amass quite a lot of avios for that, though at present you’d only be able to use it on a flight to SYD (or a connecting route like SIN or BKK).

Open a BAEC account for each. Your Avios will be combined under Household. Your going to have to change your spending life completely. Everything has to be run through your cards, everything! obviously without incurring interest. Even direct debits to see where you can pay instead of drip feeding payments per month from debit accounts.
Its a hobby with immense benefits.
Keep in mind atm if eligible you can get the British Airways premium card that is running a 60k bonus. Both of you can get it.
Also Qatar is 180k per person to Oz in Q suite.
