Will they increase the referral bonus? Is this worth waiting for or should I be jumping at this?
Unlikely. The last few times there have been enhanced bonuses, they are only possible if applying directly via BA.com. Not possible to use a referral, as you’d only get the standard 26/28k with a referral.
I assume its also the reason you don’t see much coverage on hfp when there is an enhanced bonus, as you can’t apply via the article’s for the higher bonus. I think Rob mentioned last year that when BA ran their 70k promotion, it coincided with Amex increasing their SUB to 35k, but obviously everyone then ended up applying directly, and hfp lost out on a five figure commission.

Thanks. I’m hoping to cancel or downgrade my BAPP card as 241 earned. My partner can sign up for a new one. So 60k sign up bonus is likely to beat any future upgraded referral bonus when you combine what the referee and referer get?
@captainkirk Yes, I’d say so.
Like when that promo ran last year, it was possible to get 35k using a referral, and if you had a Platinum, the referer would get 18k, but even that did not come close to the 70k directly.
This promo is also better than the other 60k offer they ran last year, as that needed £5k spend in 3 months.
I missed the Platinum 100k bonus offer by a few days so may jump on this.
Should be able to hit spend and £10k for companion voucher and then cancel in the next 6 months or so.
Question is; would I have to wait another 2 years to get Platinum or is there anyway I could sign for that also?
Pretty sure for Platinum you’d be fine as long as you haven’t held a card which earns reward points in the previous year.

So I could do BAPP now, get the sign up and 241 and then cancel it and sign up to Platinum and get the sign up bonus there?

It’s no MR earning card for the last 2 years for Plat.
I haven’t tried yet, but unfortunately, the application does make it clear you need to be earning at least £35k, so I gave up at that point. Very annoying, considering I am hoping to book expensive BA flights! 🙁
Hi when was this? I can’t see it anywhere and asked on amex chat, and they said it used to be the case but that is no longer the case. It seems they have removed income requirement, and just have the bullet pointed eligibility checker.

I just double checked. If you clicked on Apply Now button which is on the link on the British Airways email.
I understand I will not be eligible for any Welcome Bonus award if I hold or have held any personal American Express® Cards in the past 24 months.

On the free card.

So you can do Platinum and BAPP simultaneously and get both welcome bonuses?

Yes, if you haven’t had a BA or MR card in the last 2 years. Whether you get accepted for both in a short space of time, and can hit both spend targets is a different matter. Would suggest applying for the card you really want first, and getting that bonus, before applying for the other. BAPP being enhanced currently makes it the sensible choice to apply for first imo.
Already got the card after applying on May 1st. £8600 limit.

I meant the information box appears when I click on the Apply Now button. If there is anyone this month who successfully applied for the BAPP for less than £35k, let me know!

This is exactly what I have done, thanks! Hopefully can do spending target for 241 before it increases in Nov.
Can ad-hoc payments from husband’s account to wife’s account (to pay for wife’s card bills, tax etc.) be considered personal income for wife or not?

No, as per @RuiN comment, obviously not. If you were to set up regular payments well in advance of her claiming them as income and continue those, they will likely be accepted, but if you try to fudge/fake/double count etc. you will risk severely compromising your wife who needs to warrant the accuracy of the information she provides in any credit card application and such applications are serious legal documents.
