I have a curve card but have rarely used it apart from buying a few groceries to see how it worked. My daily limit on the app states that I have a few £K and under settings it says Curved fronted: “off”. AS I understand it you only need fronted = “on” for a few transaction types such as paying HMRC or paying off another card and then it incurs a 1.5% fee. Also that the metal card waives the 1.5% fee.
The “fronted” branding totally confused me because all Curve transactions are effectively fronted.
Has anyone ever used Curve to pay boarding fees. Would I need to use “fronted” for this? I also have read that this depends somewhat on the merchant code but I doubt that the school knows their merchant code. They could also be using an intermediary merchant I guess.
Thanks.
If they take card payments, why do you need to use Curve at all? Do they only take debit cards and not credit cards? Even so, Curve should generally be accepted without any problems.
The “fronted” element confused me at first as well. As @John says, if the schools takes credit cards, pay directly on one of these and don’t waste your Curve allowance (I am doing this with my son’s 6th form fees with the Virgin MC, which is slightly taking the sting out of paying them!)
If debit card only, you should be able to use Curve without fronted unless the school is seen as some sort of financial institution, which would be odd.

Since I was asking about Curve I thought it was implicit that they only accept debit cards. I should have been clearer.
Quite a lot of people come on here asking about using Curve when they don’t need to. Just try paying without fronted, if it goes through you know you’re fine!

Yes, as above.
If it doesn’t work then you make the choice whether to front it or not, or just pay via another method.
Highly unlikely you’d need to use Fronted for this.
I am guessing credit cards will not be accepted,…as even debit cards are not accepted at my school. My experience is direct debit only. The admin appears to much of a flaff to deal with for the school for manual debit card payments (unless you propose paying annual upfront payments which the school/trust would most probably quite like the sound of. I have heard of my school being open to bending the rules in such cases).
