Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Newish Executive Club member – tier point year changes

  • 62 posts

Apologies if this has been asked and answered and I am probably missing something obvious, but in the following case what is the situation.

Someone joined the Executive Club in August and has earned some tier points in August & February. Their year should have run until July but now gets cut short until 31st March as I understand it.

If it had run the full 12 months they would likely hit Gold, but as it stands will only get silver as it resets 1st April, which seems somewhat unfair.

Is my understanding correct or have I missed something obvious?

@OldFashioned – this article explains how the changes affect each current membership year end and how the transition will work.

…. although, nothing in the article actually covers what happens to a new member.

I think they are stuffed, unfortunately, but happy to be proved wrong. Exec Club doesn’t get that many new people joining so protecting their interests probably wasn’t front of mind.

Yes, sorry – this is what BA says:-

Every Member’s Tier Point Collection Year end date will run from 1 April each year. For any new Members who join after such date, the collection period will run from the day of joining until 31 March.

It is ostensibly unfair but I would imagine it was flagged at the time of joining. They had to draw a line somewhere to get the change implemented for everyone. Perhaps so they can then proceed with fare based TP earning?

I like the subtle changeover there from ‘collection year’ to ‘collection period’.

It does highlight something that I haven’t seen mentioned though. The shortened initial collection period is a permanent ongoing feature, not a one off due to the current transition.

Thank you all, I had a feeling this maybe the case but before making decisions on who to fly with wanted to be sure.

im confused with these changes. my digital card and app says my gold membership card end date is dec 2025. When I log in and visit the ba website on my desktop it says my card membership end date is 2024. I called exec club last month, was told they would send query to back office… still no response

very confused when my card membership will end
