You’ll find you’ll still need your passport on arrival at your destination so it’s not quite “no passport required”
How does it differ from when you get taken picture before entering security and then at the gate? Noticed it during covid when wearing mask and flying domestic once. No ID or passport required either.

It’s the same technology but the purpose is different. For domestic and Ireland flights it’s to prove that you were in the UK before entering security, precisely because ID isn’t required.
This trial is only for flights to Malaga for now. You have to take a photo of your passport and upload it to BA along with a selfie, like how bank apps check your ID.
